  I had bought a garbage disposal and connecting parts from Home Depot and called Ben Franklin to install it because our newly renovated house didn’t have one already fitted to swap. They came fast, which I appreciated, but overall i felt a bit scammed. They charge a $69 fee just to come. We asked the lady on the phone what’s the general price of this install and she didn’t say. We paid $220 for the disposal, and so we were shocked when the man wanted $800+ JUST TO INSTALL IT. He also offered an option for a $500+ metal food catcher (which does the same thing as the $5 plastic one we already have). So we had to deny the huge install fee and he collected the $69 and left. I also found it odd that the first thing he says upon arriving is that he doesn’t recommend putting food in the garbage disposal. I asked what he meant by “food,” and he said “anything besides water”. So we asked what the point of a garbage disposal was, and he said there isn’t one because they clog your pipes. Am I crazy for being shocked at an $800+ install fee???
