STOP: Mammoth's State College location was bought by BluSky and then CLOSED. Despite them having a local address listed here, when I called this number I was connected with BluSky all the way down in LANCASTER, their closest actual location. If you hire them to do work in the State College /Bellefonte area, then each and every one of the people they send will be driving at least two hours' each way, each day, in addition to any time spent actually working on your site- and they won't be doing it for free. I recently fell into this trap after waking to find our basement flooded. I Googled Mammoth and called the listed 1-800 number that came up here with the 280 Reese Road, State College address, thinking that I was getting the same solid, local outfit with which we had had a good experience in the past. I did not realize until after they arrived where they had come from, and it wasn't clear how this business operates until the work was done and the invoice delivered. Before beginning flood mitigation work, they required me to sign a work authorization agreeing to pay their entire invoice regardless of what our insurance would agree to cover. The foreman really stressed that point, which should have been a big red flag. That signature constituted a seriously misplaced trust, as BluSky then proceeded to take more steps than needed, deploy and charge for more drying equipment than necessary, assess fees as they saw fit, and glibly ignore my insurance company's independent review and resulting protests. (As unusual as it may sound I do not fault my insurance company here: I had to engage them on a prior occasion when we hired Mammoth, and all parties were great to work with.) I feel that BluSky's Lancaster group preyed on our misfortune, as well as my not having a law degree or being an expert in flood mitigation. I never should have signed their paperwork no matter how desperate I was to get our home restored. If in the future I need a mitigation service again (though I sure hope not) I will first ask my insurance company who is verified safe to call. To be fair, I must mention that the BluSky crew that came all this way was courteous and for the most part they did decent work (with the exception of how they ripped up our carpet, rendering it irredeemable per the insurance adjuster's estimation). My insurance company and I don't agree that BluSky had to take all of the steps that they did, nor do we feel that the resulting fees were fair: there are industry standards for equipment usage and labor minimums, for example, and these were exceeded in our case, per the independent reviewer. It just seems like this company tried to get as much onto our bill as they could. But yeah, the crew was friendly. If you need this type of service, then the last thing you need is additional headache. Look elsewhere.

Skilled labor ain’t cheap and cheap labor ain’t skilled. This company is known locally as a joke. They hire incompetent staff and their leadership is no better. Wannabe carpenters and foremens that are cheap labor grunts at best. Please do your homework before letting this business into your home!!
