When I asked about using a Cycle Stop Valve (CSV) instead of a more expensive variable-frequency drive (VFD) system, I received this statement: “Negley's will not install a cycle stop valve before the pressure tank, as this provides not [no] benefit to the system and does not make the system constant pressure. Cycle stop valves are designed to reduce flow into the tank to prevent short cycling. If the system is designed properly this will not be an issue. A cycle stop valve defeats the purpose of a standard conventional or actual constant pressure system.” That message was arrogant, condescending, and technically inaccurate IMO. In reality, CSVs can maintain nearly constant pressure, reduce cycling, and extend pump life when installed correctly — they’re a legitimate, lower-cost option for many residential systems. Their reply makes it feel like the company may have an exclusive arrangement with a particular VFD supplier, which would explain their refusal to consider alternative designs. I would have respected an honest policy statement like: “We don’t install CSVs as part of our design standard, though they can work well in certain systems. We specialize in and warranty VFD-based constant-pressure systems.” Had the company said that, I may have stayed a customer. But the tone and misinformation of the "mini-lecture" received in their quote was rude and not customer oriented. I’m leaving this review for a few months as feedback, not as a permanent takedown — hopefully they’ll reconsider how they communicate with customers who are seeking alternatives to the system they regularly install. ============ Update: I appreciate Negley's thoughtful reply to my original review. While the company frames its preference for the VFD solution as an application of their expertise for my application (residential well), I believe my initial suspicion—that the issue is fundamentally one of company policy or distribution standards—is likely correct. I understand that businesses need to specialize and stick to their standard systems. My feedback is still that future customers would benefit from a direct, policy-based refusal (e.g., "We specialize exclusively in and warranty VFD systems"), rather than receiving technical critique of a well-researched alternative. That would eliminate the need to "agree to disagree" on a technical point and focus the conversation on service scope. The bump in my rating from 1 to 2 stars reflects their professional post-review follow-up and their stated commitment to improving communication. I hope this specific feedback helps refine their quoting process.
