Frequently Asked Questions About Shades of Gray Window Tinting
How much do services cost?
Service costs vary depending on the vehicle type, selected film, and installation complexity. For a complimentary estimate, please contact us directly.
How long does it take to tint the windows on my vehicle?
The average installation time is approximately one hour, but this can vary. Factors affecting duration include vehicle type, number of installers, unexpected complications, and whether old tint removal is required.
Why do I see bubbles (right after install)?
The appearance of bubbles immediately after installation is due to moisture trapped between the glass and film. These will dissipate over time with exposure to sunlight.
Does the tint go on the inside or outside of the windows?
The tint is applied to the interior surface of the windows. This means external factors like car washes or rain will not affect the tint. However, please refrain from cleaning the interior of the windows for about a week post-installation.
Are the rear windshields tinted in one piece?
At Shades of Gray, we heat-shrink and install the tint in one piece for rear windshields on 99% of vehicles we service.
How long do I need to keep my windows up?
To ensure proper adhesion and curing, please keep your windows fully closed for a minimum of three days following the tint installation.
My car is equipped with a feature that drops the window slightly when I open the doorwill this cause a problem for tinting?
This feature does not pose an issue for window tinting. Our experienced technicians are familiar with this mechanism and will ensure the windows are tinted in the fully raised position to prevent any gaps when the doors are closed.
Do I need felt moldings installed?
In most cases, felt moldings are unnecessary. We will inform you if your vehicle requires them, but we typically employ a cost-effective method to prevent scratching without additional charges.
What's with the dot-matrix pattern around my windows?
The dot-matrix pattern is a common feature on many vehicle windows, particularly rear windshields. Initially, the tint may appear uneven over this pattern, but it will settle to create a framed appearance once dry.
Does it cost extra to remove old film?
Yes, there is an additional charge for old film removal. This process can be time-consuming, especially for rear windshields with heating elements. We can provide a quote for this service upon request.
