My antique car is almost 100-years-old and I needed to transport it for some TLC. It, I and my pickup truck almost did not make it. Since I do not own a car carrier, I looked around to find one I could rent. Eventually I settled on United Rentals (UR), a company which rents heavy equipment. That’s a hint to me. I chose a two-day rental. I rented a heavy-duty, four-wheel, flatbed trailer. There were hints of doom essentially from the beginning. For example, a regular/normal “ball” trailer-hitch is not acceptable. You must use a “special hitch,” which UR supplies, which ironically has the same chrome ball my trailer-hitch has but it also contains some “other” controls mine doesn’t. I believe it’s called a Pintle hitch. A huge ring on the trailer goes over/onto the much smaller chrome trailer hitch ball. Therefore, with ever start and stop there’s a noted clunk and push/pull. All of the previous info is chit-chat. The heart of the matter is that towing this trailer is as close to signing your death sentence as it gets. As soon as you get to 40-50 MPH the trailer starts to whiplash like crazy. Several times I almost lost control of my truck and only heaven knows where it goes from there. One time I pulled over and a fellow traveler said he has several similar trailers and trailer brake set-ups. He reset the brake switch. I continued on. No difference. I called/emailed UR. A service man came out to help. He said the car was improperly loaded/balanced. We changed/centered it. Took it for a short test ride. Seemed better. When I returned to Interstate 80 the whiplash was worse than ever. When another pick-up truck towing a trailer with a vehicle on it flew past me and easily turned back into my lane, I knew something big time was wrong with my setup. A friend who has towed many types of trailers told me I needed a sway/control bar. After I made my delivery, on my way back home, no weight on the trailer, it was a little better. But it was still uncontrollable at points/times. I hope and I pray this never happens to anyone ever again. This was one of the most dreadful days of my life. Thankfully I’m here to write this review.
