Mind you, this is a brand new Daikin unit, which had been installed within 2 weeks of said incident. When I called to schedule, I was very clear as to the nature of the service that I needed, including an explanation of the repair that I made to the line set, the type and quantity of refrigerant needed to complete the job, etc. When the technician arrived, he told my son that he didn’t have any R-32 refrigerant, and the company wasn’t going to purchase a canister of it for this service call, since the rest of it wouldn’t be used. It is my understanding that this refrigerant is quite commonly used in mini-split systems, and has been in use by Daikin in particular since about 2012. At this point, the technician indicated that it would be best to replace the entire unit with a new one to avoid this problem in the future. I had the system checked and recharged by a different contractor the next day, and it’s been operating just fine since. I won’t likely be recommending Gresham Heating and Air Conditioning to anyone.
