It’s important to make sure that while the unit is covered, power is off at either the disconnect or the breaker to insure the unit doesn't turn on while the unit is covered. Be sure to uncover the unit before applying power back to your outdoor unit.
How can I increase the efficiency of my HVAC unit?
You can increase your HVAC unit's efficiency with regular tune-ups and filter replacements and by following a maintenance schedule. Decreasing usage whenever possible and turning the system thermostat to vacation mode if you are going out of town. If your thermostat doesn't have a vacation mode, turn your heating down to 55 and your cooling up to 80. Doing this can lower your energy consumption and also help with the unit's efficiency while away for long periods of time.
