Rented a boom lift for a week for a specialty tree job. Had my business partner on the job site at a customers house. He told me that when he got it, the battery was dead, it had to be jumped. He also said it looked like their oldest most beat up machine. He was having other issues, I don't know if it was user error, or a problem with the machine, but they did get a tech out to get it figured out. A day or two later, the lift starts spraying hydraulic fluid all over from the knuckle while in use. This put lives at risk, and made the customer (and the neighbor) very unhappy. Neighbor had to pressure wash their property to get rid of it, really should have been at URs expense. This happened a little after 5, so if I had wanted a tech to come out, they were telling me it would be $500 for after hours. Nuts, and no thanks. We waited until the morning to avoid that cost. When the tech showed up, my guy at the site told me that the tech told him that there were three eroded hoses. If I recall correctly, they told him the machine probably should have been retired. They spend until noon getting it fixed, but we have no idea when it is done. I start getting nervous about, I call in the evening to see what was going on. No one ever notified us it was done, but it had been done byl noon. Customer thinks we are slacking, and we are losing time. I try to negotiate for more time, and it is like pulling teeth with Kelly, who I'm guessing is the manager, because we rented Friday to Friday, and one extra business day would give us the weekend + the extra day. They were not on our side, did not have our back. Whole thing was very unprofessional, very bad business. Bummer too, we were looking to set up a business account with someone, definitely will not be with them, nor will we be recommending them to anyone. As for the customer, they were not having it. Cancels a $5800 job with us, so we eat the insurance cost AND don't get paid. I'm not sure if litigation is appropriate, but I am considering looking into it.
