From the very beginning, I never felt pressured or guilted into a decision. Justin was honest and direct with his assessments and options; it never felt like "if you don't decide now, it's over!" and was patient with my desire to sleep on it before moving forward. So happy that I did! Jesse and Brad P were EXCELLENT! They were kind, efficient, and very thorough with their work. The electricians who stopped out to help install the thermostat were also amazing - very communicative and understanding. All of those who were part of this process (including the salesman, Justin S.) were also incredible with my eager-to-love-you senior pitty. Combined, everyone was courteous and approachable, and made the experience a very positive one. I would recommend this team every time. They took my old system and removed it with no incident, brought in the new one AND repaired a duct that was falling apart. If it didn't look & sound so new, you'd never have been able to tell that anyone was there!

I've been a customer of John Betlem since 2010 when our HVAC system died and they installed a Carrier system. I have been a JB Advantage Club (JBAC) member since then, and moderately pleased with their service and repairs. However, based on their recent amazing service, I bump them up from 4 to 5 stars. I always wondered if I was wasting money on the JBAC plan (discounted maintenance and parts, some other perqs) until a few weeks ago, when the Carrier gas furnace went caput. At 8 pm I called JB and within two hours a repairman came out and diagnosed a truly dead furnace. The JBAC plan used to cover diagnostic visits 100%, but now only 50%, but even so, that paid for the last few years of the plan. It was already down to 12 degrees out and not expected to get much warmer the next few days, so it was an emergency. Luckily we had a gas fireplace and a couple of space-heaters to keep us warm. Even more luckily, JB sent Mike out the next day to talk about a new system. In the last few years I have been craving an air-source heat pump system, but based on their and two other estimates, did not feel I could afford it. but Mike listened to what I wanted (both HVAC and budget) and offered some good options. We settled on a hybrid heat-pump/gas that was about 35% less than the full air-source heat pump system I had considered a few years, which put it in range of my budget. Yay! We would have heat and the kind of heat I wanted. This system only uses gas below 20 degrees. Good enough. The JB crew swooped in the next day and by the end of the day, we had a new system that is so much better than the old conventional gas system in so many ways. I was astounded by the whole process. Sending out a repairman late at night, and getting me a new system the second day after the old one failed, and in time to get the tax credit before they kill it. (Oh yeah, and the diagnostic visit was refunded, and the HVAC had a juicy rebate.) I am really appeciative of how quickly and expertly they installed the new system on short notice at a busy time of the year, and how easy it was to work with them.

I had called several times to get someone to come to my home but appts were only available several days away. I was afraid the pipes were going to freeze. My 5 yr old furnace was blowing cold air then shutting off. The house was 59° & never went above 62°. On the 8th day someone came while I was working. My son called. The man said "I found the problem, there was a loose screw to the ground & its working fine". I suggested he stick around because I didn't believe that he solved the problem. In 2 minutes. He said "it's going into cycle 2 & I'm confident it's fixed". I said it won't get beyond cycle 2, it will shut off & I'll come home & have to re-start it with the fuse box like I've been doing day & night for 8 days. Wait & see. He said "it's going to be expensive for you if I have to stay & wait for it to cycle thru!!" Wow. Next I asked what code was flashing when he 1st walked in. He stuttered a minute & said "you know the codes?" Yes I do. "Well... it was 34 but that still could be the screw. I'm confident its fine now." We were on speaker phone so I asked my son how long he was there in total. He said 20 mins... no more than 30. The serviceman didn't disagree. We hung up. He billed me $131.37 charging for almost an hour including I'm sure sitting in the driveway to write it up. I was home within the hour. The furnace never got thru cycle 2, shut itself off & continued to do the same thing for another week. I called to dispute the bill & was told I would not be charged. No one ever came back or called to even ask about it. I was not reimbursed the money & after 6 more calls the conversation became more focused on sending someone else (at 1st I heard people "request that man"...? I don't care. I don't have heat! My furnace is 5 years old! I pay for a maintenance program yearly. This is NOT acceptable treatment & there was NO service, I want my money refunded. To date I'm still waiting. I was promised phonecalls on other days/times that never came. So far everything I have been "assured" would be handled has not been. Judge for yourself. I never missed a payment & kept my end of every agreement. This is how you treat a good customer? It's not how I was raised to do business.

Betlem installed an AC unit during the summer, installation seemed to go fine and everything worked as advertised. A leak appeared in my basement after I turned on the heat in the fall, I looked to find where it originated, it was on the drain inside my furnace, the piping attached to the drain was tapped into by Betlem during the install of the AC unit, it was clear to me they disturbed something during the install that caused the leak. They sent out a technician that refused to listen and decided that they would not bear any responsibility for it, he claimed that because the furnace was old it magically sprung a leak, obviously nonsense, nobody had gone near the drain before or after the AC install, I reached out to the sales guy who referred me to their service manager, he never got back to me. I called in someone else that also agreed the leak was likely caused during the install, Betlem could have easily resolved this but instead decided to take no responsibility. I will never use them again, horrible customer service.

I have a boiler system that they installed a few years ago. I schedule a yearly routine maintenance service and chose my time for the appointment. They showed up hours early which I was not prepared for, then proceeded to tell me we can’t even begin to run the basic tests till we replace your pump on the boiler. Mind you, it’s working fine, I just like to make sure to keep it in top working order, and then they proceeded to tell me I would need to add their additional service which would give me free return visits for a year in case there is any other problems. There wasn’t a problem to start with except them showing up first thing in the morning instead of noon as we had scheduled. This is the second time they pulled this type of service with me and my properties, and it will be the last. I will NEVER use this company again. I called their main office and spoke with Devon, whom I expressed my frustration and annoyance at the lack of respect of my time and for the additional add on services they needed to hard sell before even starting the job, and Devon was completely dismissive and rude. I cancelled my other appointment I had with them for later that same day on my other property, which was to have been done back to back since the houses are right next door, but now I get to sit all morning with the first appointment and then have to wait until possibly 4:00 for the next one. Devin’s response was “whatever, I’ll cancel it”. I used to be the biggest fan and trusted John Betlem, now I will scream from the mountain top my experience and distrust of them.
