- HDHeather DadourianNov 1, 20195.0We contacted Marcello Ferri AIA about renovating our landmark/historic Brooklyn brownstone early in the process. He visited the site and discussed a number of options on how to achieve what we wanted. Our job was complex as not only were we adding in central/ac and renovating the house top to bottom, but also because we wanted a completely open floor plan on the parlor floor. This required a great deal of structural work. He advised us on how to plan ahead and make choices before submitting drawings to contractors, in order to avoid change orders that would add to budget significantly and draw out the scheduled timeline. Marcello also helped us choose a contractor, and when things seemed out of budget was thorough in helping us evaluate additional subcontractors to keep the job within our reach. Before we even submitted drawings to the contractors, Marcello had a very accurate sense of the overall cost of the budget. Again, he helped us keep our job within the overall budget. Throughout the job Marcello worked to make sure we received what we really wanted. Even with high end contractors, they like to cut corners and do the job “their way.” He did not allow this and was insistent that the job was done the right way. In many instances making the contractors demo the work that was wrong (if past the point of no return) and redo the work the right way as he constantly checked their work throughout the job. As with everything in life there were surprises, but Marcello was there to make sure that we solved any issues that we did not expect. He is very thorough, incredibly ethical, and has been great at moving things through the DOB when expeditors fall short. All in all Marcello has been great to work with.

The properties are located on the UWS in Manhattan and subject to extensive regulations by the NYC department of buildings, Landmark Preservation Commission and the Co-op Board. Marcello did a fantastic job coordinating the General Contractor, the Engineer with the Co-op Architect the Co-op engineer and the NYC Inspectors. He was always punctual with deadlines, professional and supportive throughout the process. I highly recommend Marcello!
