"I purchased an electric fireplace insert in the spring of 2024 and the entire process was easy and even pleasant. The variety of electric units at the Fireplace People store was very good and the sales people were actually very helpful with NO pressure to buy! I alsothought that pricing was very reasonable. I had a carpenter do the install as part of the construction of a wall unit in my TV room. The process was VERY easy and operation of the unit is very simple with...of course...a remote! My electric fireplace looks remarkably realistic and I've had seveal compiiments on it. The unit even throws off some heat making cold winter nights quite cozy. Overall, I am very happy with the insert and the Fireplace People made the purchase process quite pleasant and easy. Thanks!"
Frequently Asked Questions About The Fireplace People
Can a wood-burning fireplace be converted to gas?
Yes, converting a wood-burning fireplace to gas is a popular option due to improved efficiency and convenience. Natural gas is cost-effective and produces cleaner emissions compared to wood. It's essential to have a certified professional install the gas line to ensure compliance with safety codes and regulations.
What is the cost of heating a gas fireplace?
The cost of operating a gas fireplace depends on usage duration. Our experts estimate that a thermostat for 100,000 BTUs costs approximately $0.50 to run. For a 12,500 BTU fireplace, the hourly operating cost is about $0.12. Compared to wood-burning fireplaces, natural gas can provide up to 75% in cost savings.
Will a gas fireplace operate during a power failure?
Gas fireplaces equipped with a standing pilot light will continue to function during power outages, as they maintain a constant gas supply independent of electricity.
What are BTUs?
BTU stands for British thermal unit, a measurement of heat output. Generally, 10,000 BTUs can effectively heat an area of about 500 square feet. For more detailed information about fireplaces and BTUs, please contact The Fireplace People.
What is a direct-vent fireplace?
A direct-vent fireplace is a sealed combustion system that draws air from outside for burning and expels all smoke and vapor directly to the exterior of the building.
Can I use vented gas logs in a stove? In a fireplace? In a coal-burning fireplace?
Vented gas logs are designed for use exclusively in wood-burning fireplaces. They are not suitable for coal-burning fireplaces due to insufficient depth, and are not recommended for stoves because of safety concerns.
I am remodeling my basement; should I go with direct-vent or vent-free?
Direct-vent fireplaces offer an attractive appearance and efficient heating with minimal moisture output. Vent-free models provide substantial heat and aesthetic appeal, but may produce excessive heat if not properly sized for the room. When correctly matched to the space, a vent-free fireplace should not cause issues with heat or moisture.
