Called for frozen pipe. Couldn’t help because the freezing was outside the house. They changed the hourly rate of $560 for use of deicing equipment even if it was used for no more than 15 min. Most of the time was spent trying to convince me I needed new pipes and quoted me$78,000.00 for the expected work. Not sure I would call them back

The appointment was a disappointing experience. The technician was 1 hour late. When I made the appointment I explained that I had a nest thermostat issue. After the technician examined things, he explained that they did not think the nest was a good product therefore was not worth fixing. Recommended a solution of a Honeywell thermostat times three which would cost me $4000. I can’t afford to do a $4000 repair for thermostats therefore overall I would say the experience was less than satisfactory.

The first day I wasn’t sure what to think. I was taken aback to hear, after five hours of work, that the plumber was not just going to repair the burst pipe, but to replace every piece of galvanized pipe in the house. It was all or nothing, after I was already $2000 into the job. He said — again after five hours — that what he had done so far was $2000 (and he had not fixed the leak) and he would not fix the leak unless I agreed to the whole thing (which was a lot of money). I wanted to drop it and get someone else. And he said he was not responsible for cleanup, restoration would do that.
But I decided to go ahead with the all-in job, just to decrease the likelihood of future problems due to galvanized pipes. And I’m glad I did. Today the plumbers were Jonny, Victor, and Jorge, all thoroughly professional, explaining what they were going to do all along. And they were immaculate, spreading paper everywhere they needed to walk, and completely upfront. If I were basing this review on these three guys it would be a definite 5 across the board.

Writing this with consciousness of y’all reader’s time. So a quick summary - From my experience with Pipeworks, I developed a strong belief that this company is operational inefficient, overpriced and is not as competent as they seem like. AVOID IT AT ALL COST!!
During my experience, I spoke with their office staff, plumbing manager, Mike, and their technician, Anthony. I also ran into one of their previous employees, who told me he decided to leave Pipeworks because they charged so much money and too much stress for each employee to deliver on sales results.
Here is the whole story -
One day, I noticed one toilet was clogged. It was after hour, so I called Pipe Works.
The technician, Anthony, came (they charged me $349 after hour fee), removed the toilet and snake/unlogged drainage pipes down below (for another $619).
When examining the plumbing system at my house, Anthony didn’t pay enough attention to an old T joint that is adjacent to the toilet downspout. As a result, he snaked into the opposite direction, spent a good 15mins trying to push the snake into my kitchen sink and couldn’t know why it was not working. Later a reputable plumber told me that the snake machine he used was not a good one - not powerful enough. I now feel lucky it was not that powerful as my kitchen sink would have exploded.
I went to basement and took a video showing the snake noise was occurring in the opposite side of the house. And I showed the video to him. His first reaction was ‘no way! it’s impossible!’.
Because he didn’t believe me, so he asked me to hold the snake, turn it on and he went to basement to check it out.
Finally, he agreed and snaked into the right direction. This time, the pipe was unclogged in 5mins.
Then he suggested to do a video inspection into the sewage pipe to identify the cause of the clog. He said it was free. So I let him try. His video was in black/white whereas the other two companies both deliver color videos. This matters because he then concluded that I have a house trap 70ft away from the house based on those images. I was surprised as the video from my inspector showed no such a thing. Later I hired Freedom Plumbing to do a second look, and they did a much better job by not just taking the video but also measuring the depth of each part of the sewer line. Freedom of course didn’t think there is a house trap.
Continuing on with my journey with Anthony, after the camera inspection, he put the original/cracked wax ring back (remember this), put the toilet back and siliconed around the base.
Upon leaving, Anthony also shared with me an estimate of fixing the imaginary house trap - over $14k to dig the yard, replace the house trap and install a couple clean-out. He said it all depends on whether it’s really a house trap and if there is something else, further investigation/digging is needed. They will charge 6k for one more day of work. Anthony (and later his manager Mike) told me that it’s very likely we need at least one more day and I should set my expectations to potentially spending $20k.
Yes. $20k.
I later learned that, other reputable companies would replace the whole pipe from my house to the curb with the same amount of money.
Couple weeks later, Anthony called and said he want to help me with the house trap issue. I told him I don’t think he was right. He was like - ‘Can you tell me why it’s not right?’ The way he said it was like a teacher is scolding a student for a wrong answer. I was annoyed by that and the conversation didn’t ended up well.
Two months later, I noticed the pipe beneath the toilet that Anthony worked on was leaking. So I called Pipeworks and asked for a different technician. The office staff said for a different technician, I need to wait for one more day. So I agreed.
The next day… ANTHONY showed up on my porch. And he didn’t think Pipeworks should be responsible for it and he blamed it to the contractor that worked on my house later. And he want $725 to put a new wax ring.
Hope this helps more people be aware that Pipeworks does NOT work.
