    We moved to NC from out of state at the end of June 2024, put a deposit down on a new construction home and lived in a very expensive month-to-month rental while also paying to have our belongings in storage until we could close and move into our new home. They initially told us that we would be able to close and move in by mid-October. It was going to be a stretch for us but we did what we could to make it work. Living in a temporary situation with 2 small kids was not easy but we were excited about brand new house. Well, little did we know that Stanley Martin would jerk us around for months and months, telling us "just a few more weeks" every single time we asked for an update but there was always some other delay, issue or problem that kept setting back that timeline. Our entire life was on hold. Surgery post-poned until after we moved. Children's activities paused because we didn't know when or where we would be. Finances were stretched beyond their capacity due to the high cost of month-to-month rental and storage units. At first the team was deceptive about the real reasons why our house kept getting delayed. It wasn't until we kept escalating to the next level of management that finally starting getting some answers, but that did nothing to actually change the outcome or timeline. Frustration built day after day, patience wore thin and eventually we started looking at other houses. Unfortunately, the other options on the market in the area we needed did fit our needs (and we were already locked in with our deposit) so we had no choice but to wait. And wait. And wait some more while continuously post-poning just about every aspect of our family life. Until FINALLY in JUNE 2025 were able to close and move in. 7 MONTHS after what they initially told us. We do NOT recommend Stanley Martin. Steer clear. There are so many other builders and developments to choose from in the Charlotte area. Do yourself a favor and go with a different builder. We sure wish we did.
