- MWMichael wetheringtonAug 10, 20252.0I had self diagnosed problem as a shorted compressor in my heat pump , but needed an official diagnosis and someone to make the repair. The compressor was under warranty from manufacturer ICP/Comfortmaker. Everyone I called said it would be 2-3 weeks,plus I had been told by a distributor that it would take 2 weeks to get the compressor. J&J was able to commit to next day service, which I assumed would expedite the repair, and we were experiencing temps in the upper 90s for consecutive days. The tech that came out was pleasant and confirmed my own diagnosis in about 15 minutes. During our conversations the tech stated that they hadn't gone to school for heat/air repair. That didn't really matter at the time, but I later felt that J&J may use untrained people to put out "fires" ( take easy calls ) to get someone onsite quicker. That's okay, but not really sure how I feel about that. The tech gave me an estimate to replace the compressor, which was about $800 more than 2 other companies, that gave estimates based on my diagnosis. J&J charged $220 to come onsite. J&J would have to acquire the warranted compressor from ICP and seemed to have some issues with that. Ultimately, they basically responded that they didn't know how they would get it and that my estimate was no longer accurate because of that. That was my last contact from J&J. About a week later, I did receive a small package with some candy and a card thanking me for trusting them. At that point, I felt that a tube of "Recticare" would have made me feel better.
