DO NOT HIRE HIGHLANDER ROOFING AND RUN FROM LUKE SMITH! We have had the WORST experience with Highlander Roofing (Luke Smith). Due to damage from Hurricane Helene we needed a new roof. We received 2 bids that were equal in cost. Unfortunately, we went with Luke Smith because the timeline was going to be quicker to get the roof completed. What a MISTAKE. From the start, the job did not go smoothly. His crew had to come to my home 3 different times, all unannounced, to measure the roof. Our home is not large nor is the roofline complicated. When the work finally began, the workers were very disrespectful, discarding their personal garbage throughout the property and using the woods around our home as a bathroom facility as there was no portalet provided. When a rain storm was predicted, I personally asked Luke Smith if the uncompleted roof would be compromised by the rain and he responded, "it will be better than before!". The night of the storm, we woke up to rain pouring into the house, damaging the much of the top and bottom floor drywall, insulation and wood floors. We called Luke Smith multiple times to let him know about the damage. He explained that his insurance company would be notified and that any damage would be covered under his liability policy. He told the foreman of the water mitigation team that were present at his arrival that he would take care of the cost. None of those things happened! His insurance company denied coverage because the work was SUBCONTRACTED! We were NEVER notified that he uses subcontractors. The subcontractors insurance has denied the claim because the policy stated that if the roof was not properly covered while it was not being worked on, any and all claims from water would be denied. The ridge cap on the roof was left wide open, not covered, not taped during the rain event. We have pictures and documentation of the POOR WORKMANSHIP Nene's Construction did as the subcontractors. The amount of damage done to the interior and exterior of our home far exceeds the balance of the contract for the new roof.. Luke Smith owes us money but has the nerve to file a lien on our home and sue us for the remainder of the contract. Needless to say, a counter suit has been filed for the funds he owes us. We have any documentation that you will need to see that Luke Smith does not stand by his work, does not honor his word and is highly unqualified to do his job. So sorry we did not hire Roman's Roofing.

First, I did a lot of work to find not just the right company, but, even more importantly, the right person. I relied on referrals, reviews, real estate agents…..I even contacted the Better Business Bureau. After several interviews I found Luke Smith at Highlander Roofing Services in Franklin, North Carolina. Our home had been heavily damaged from Hurricane Helene and we could no longer live in it. So, a ten hour round trip meant…….I have to rely on other's. Luke was that guy. So much damage was not observable until the old roof was disassembled. He helped us in so many ways……even driving to us with some larger metal samples. The constant stream of photographs with notes…..really eased the stress level. Even if I been standing there…….there is nothing I could have added. Luke’s crew are professionals…..there is a project manager ( a very sharp guy)………I’m convinced they left no stone unturned. For a job like this, I think it’s crucial to have crystal clear communication…….and Luke excelled at that. My neighbors are certainly impressed with the outcome. Anne and I could not be happier……from beginning to end. Thank you to Luke Smith….and his team at Highlander Roofing Services.
