  I had an extremely disappointing and frustrating experience with United Rentals. We rented a telehandler for what was clearly agreed to be a one-day rental. The equipment was used for exactly 8 hours in one day, and that is confirmed by their own system. The sales representative, Chris Riesenbe, handled the reservation. At the time of booking, the machine was supposed to be picked up the next day. However, United Rentals did not come to pick up the equipment for three days, and now they are trying to charge us for three full days instead of one. The invoice they issued is $2,900 instead of the correct amount of around $960. When we contacted them, their own staff admitted: “Yes, we see you only used it for one day.” Yet they still insist on billing for three days because, according to them, we were supposed to call to request pickup. At no point during the reservation were we informed that we needed to call for the equipment to be picked up. The agreement was clearly for a one-day rental with pickup the following day. What makes the situation even worse is the constant harassment with threatening phone calls and emails demanding payment for charges that are clearly incorrect. The behavior has been extremely unprofessional. Another very suspicious detail: all of their calls are recorded — except the call where the reservation was made. That one was “conveniently” not recorded. If it had been recorded, it would clearly confirm the agreement that the rental was for one day with next-day pickup. Overall, this has been a terrible experience. Instead of correcting an obvious mistake, United Rentals continues to pressure us to pay nearly three times the correct amount. Very disappointing customer service and extremely unprofessional handling of a simple rental. I would strongly advise anyone considering doing business with them to get everything in writing and be very careful, because once they have your information, resolving billing issues can become a nightmare.

  We live in Mills River and rented a scissor lift for painting from the Arden, N.C. Store. When it was dropped off we later realized it would not fit through the door from our garage. Dean came to our place to assess the situation. After looking at alternative lifts, it was determined we would need to use scaffolding. Dean was very understanding and gracious and didn’t charge us for the equipment or the delivery/pick up. He was very professional, helpful and kind. We are very much appreciative of the way he worked with us. The rest of their staff was really nice, as well. We would definitely recommend using their services.
