Steve is the sweetest guy. He came out to look at our unit knowing he was a 3rd quote, and that we were moving soon. He also taught me a couple things about A/C units and home maintenance. He was honest and responsive. Thanks again Steve!

MMT installed a new furnace for us last year. They did a great job - quick service, reasonable prices, friendly servicemen. The furnace kept us warm through a terribly cold winter and we expect it to keep is warm for many years to come!

MMT did an excellent job on our recent AC repair. They came out one of the hottest days of the year, the day before the 4th of July holiday weekend and arrived within 2 hours of my call. The repair person, Josh, was very professional, courteous and diagnosed the problem and reviewed several repair options with me. After discussing options, Josh repaired the AC unit and it is working like new and keeping us cool again. I can't say enough good things about this company and would not hesitate to call them again and recommend them highly.

I had a very unique situation happening with my pump seizing up and my lines freezing from my boiler. They were my last hope, they worked with me and made it affordable for me to purchase new lines and fittings and although I didn't have a truck available to bring the lines back to my home (45 minutes away) Scott kindly delivered them on his personal time and gas and then stayed in the dark to assist my handyman and make sure he was connecting everything properly. My water line had burst in my house and he located the leak and also isolated it so that I could have running water!!!!lSteve and Scott absolutely have made a customer for life. I cannot say enough good. Highly recommend!

Frequently Asked Questions About MMT Heating & Cooling
Is it a good idea to seal heating registers in my home?
We recommend leaving all your vents and registers open. Closing off registers to rooms you don’t use often causes your furnace system to release air unevenly and overwork itself as a result. By leaving registers open, air flow is allowed to evenly and efficiently heat your house.
How often do I need to replace my furnace filters?
Changing your furnace filter once a year during your annual tune-up is ideal, especially if your home does not have many air quality concerns. If you smoke indoors or have pets or allergies, we recommend changing your filter every six months to maintain cleaner air quality.
Bryant filters are more efficient than the selection at your local hardware store and MMT can help you find a filter for your system that will maximize your furnace’s cycling and airflow. Upgrade to a filter with a high AFUE (Annual Fuel Utilization Efficiency) rating to save money on your utility costs.
Should I purchase a furnace or boiler with a larger capacity for added heating comfort?
Having a larger furnace or boiler installed in your home doesn’t mean your heating comfort will be any better. An oversized unit in your home won’t cycle properly, causing inefficient operation, more out-of-pocket costs and a shortened life cycle for your heating system.
Can an outdoor wood furnace be installed with my heating system?
An outdoor wood furnace can be easily integrated with any existing heating system. Whether you have a furnace or a boiler, MMT can design and install an outdoor wood furnace on your property to make your heating more cost-effective and energy-efficient. Our Duluth customers burn 30-50% less wood with a Central Boiler outdoor wood furnace, helping them save money and lower their carbon footprint.
How long will my furnace or boiler last?
Depending on the system, the average lifespan for both furnaces and boilers is about 15 years. As your heating system ages, it naturally loses efficiency, resulting in higher energy bills. Your system’s lifespan can be extended with routine maintenance from our experts at MMT Heating & Cooling. Keep up with maintenance checkups and plan ahead for a new system before your heat goes out in the middle of a Duluth winter!
What is the best way to conserve energy and reduce my energy bills?
Consider the following options to increase your air conditioning efficiency and reduce energy bills:
Upgrade to a high-efficiency system.
Install ceiling fans.
Schedule routine maintenance checkups.
Keep vents and registers unobstructed.
Install a programmable thermostat.
Adjust the temperature 5-8 degrees up or down depending on the season.
How often should I schedule maintenance on my home cooling system?
We highly recommend annual maintenance for your air conditioning system. Our maintenance includes a tune-up and cleaning to remove contaminants. Our technicians check your system for malfunctions and make sure it is operating efficiently. Tune-ups help you maintain a safe cooling system and extend its lifespan.
How long will my air conditioner last?
AC systems last between 10-15 years on average and can even last 20 years or more with proper care. With regular maintenance, we can keep your cooling system operating efficiently and perform important repairs before they become major issues.
Which cooling system is right for my home?
To properly outfit your Duluth home with an air conditioner, one of our cooling technicians will take measurements and listen to your home comfort needs. We will discuss your budget and assess efficiency ratings to narrow down the options and help you choose the right air conditioning system for your home. We can even help you save money by finding rebates!
What is the most efficient thermostat setting for air conditioning?
The most efficient setting for your air conditioner is the highest temperature at which you are comfortable. We recommend keeping your AC around 76-78 degrees when you are at home and bumping it up to 78-80 degrees while you’re away. Raising your thermostat setting by just two degrees can reduce your overall cooling costs by 5%.
Is it recommended to seal heating registers in the home?
It is recommended to leave all vents and registers open to allow even and efficient airflow, preventing the furnace from overworking.
How often should furnace filters be replaced?
Filters should ideally be replaced once a year during an annual tune-up, or every six months if you have pets, allergies, or smoke indoors.
Does installing a larger furnace or boiler improve heating comfort?
No, oversized units cycle improperly leading to inefficiency, higher costs, and shorter system life. Proper sizing is important.
Can an outdoor wood furnace be integrated with my existing heating system?
Yes, MMT Heating & Cooling can design and install an outdoor wood furnace compatible with your current furnace or boiler for cost-effective heating.
What is the typical lifespan of furnaces and boilers?
Furnaces and boilers usually last about 15 years; routine maintenance can extend their lifespan and maintain efficiency.
What are effective ways to conserve energy and reduce heating and cooling bills?
Options include upgrading to high-efficiency systems, installing ceiling fans, keeping vents unobstructed, routine maintenance, using programmable thermostats, and adjusting temperature settings seasonally.
