$26 Tune Up is a SCAM!!
I scheduled a basic tune-up, but it quickly turned into a high-pressure sales pitch for a $10,000 new furnace. During a week of sub-zero temperatures, the technician shut off my heat, claiming dangerously high CO levels. I got angry then he showed how to turn on, but upon checking with other technicians legally he's supposed to do that. After getting a second opinion, I discovered three major dishonest claims:
Lie #1 - I was told my heat exchanger was out of warranty, which was leaking CO. I verified with Lennox that it actually carries a 20-year warranty.
Lie #2 - The tech claimed CO levels were lethal. A second independent technician confirmed that CO levels naturally spike briefly at startup before stabilizing—which is normal operation, not a failure.
Lie #3 - The tech measured CO in the exhaust flue and claimed it was leaking into the home. A follow-up inspection of the actual vents showed zero CO leakage into the living spaces.
Avoid them at all costs, surely avoid $26 tune up which might turn up unnecessarily expensive.

We had Genz-Ryan out this fall to fix a buzzing vent, which ended up being just a loose screw. While they were here, the technician recommended replacing a sensor and warned that our heat could fail without it. With a small baby at home and winter coming, we agreed. We paid about $600 for a part that costs around $20, plus $1,200 for duct cleaning.
Within weeks, the new sensor failed and we lost heat overnight. Another Genz-Ryan technician came out and confirmed the first one had installed it incorrectly. Over the next month, the sensor failed two more times, each time leaving us without heat overnight. Even though this was an issue caused by their work, we were told the earliest appointment was the next day. It was also very hard to get a real person on the phone, and one customer service rep was very rude.
Because of this, we went through three nights without heat this winter with a baby, and it would have been longer if we had waited for Genz-Ryan to come fix their own mistakes! My husband had to miss work to troubleshoot in one instance, and we had to call in someone else the other time.
Since the duct cleaning, one bathroom now overheats so much. The vent runs under the vanity, and the cabinet gets so hot that some of our toiletries have been damaged and my contacts have melted! This was not an issue before their duct cleaning… I believe they knocked a vent loose and it’s leaking.
Overall, this was a very frustrating experience, and we regret going with Genz-Ryan from the start. One tiny issue cost us $1800, several days and nights without heat, and such a headache.

I had 3 relatively modest electrical projects I needed to get done today. I was grateful Genz-Ryan could schedule a technician to come the very next day. Joseph arrived in a timely fashion and we proceeded to troubleshoot the first project. Joseph determined what part was needed & thanks to photos I had taken, he could find that part on-line. I ordered it right away and would finish the repair myself in a couple of days. Joseph worked up an estimate for cost to finish 2 projects. I accepted that estimate. He proceeded to install a SunSmart Digital Timer and programmed it for me too! He also replaced an older porcelain fixture w/a rusty chain that kept shorting-out. And finally, during the assessment of some future sub-panel work, he discovered that panel was leaking cold air significantly. Along with the new fixture , he suggested I pick up some "duct seal" and then proceeded to sealed that cold air from coming in so much anymore!
Joseph was easy to work with, friendly, communicated well, and I appreciated the extra-mile of customer service he gave to get these projects done today.
I would recommend him to others and hire him again when other electrical projects come up!
Gratefully,

If I could leave less than one star I would. Absolutely awful company! Called first thing in the morning to make an appt (around 7:30am) and was told a tech would be here by 10am. Moments after the call ended I realized the rep didn’t take my address correctly - no big deal, right? I called back and spoke to not just one but two people who said I didn’t have a not have an appointment on their books. I have them the name of the live person I spoke to when making my appointment and repeated some of the information they had given me about the appt. I decided to go with another company bc it was very odd that suddenly they had no record of the appt I had just made. A couple hours later they call me to confirm details for my appt. I said excuse me? I was told I didn’t have an appt today and the lady said “Oh we figured it out and it’s a system error we had”. I thought ok fair enough and asked what time they could come. She told me most likely by Noon. Which was sooner than the other company so I said ok put me on the schedule then. Noon comes and goes and around 1:15pm I got a text that they hadn’t forgotten about me and that they would check in with me about 2pm. Which they did, but then they said someone would be to my house by 4pm. I called at 2:45pm to find out what was going on and to make sure someone was still coming today and was told yes they would still be coming but it might be after 4pm. The rep I talked to said they would reach out to dispatch to see if they could get any kind of update on times for me and said he would call me back within 10 minutes. No phone call was ever received. So I cal back again. This time the rep tells me she will check with dispatch and call me back - which she did do. But she couldn’t provide an update. At this point I asked her if someone was actually going to come today and she told me she wasn’t sure. So after all this I asked to speak to a supervisor. After some back and forth with the rep and a very long hold time she finally got me a supervisor. And immediately I knew this was not going to end well. Not only did he talk over me - despite me remaining very calm and collected he then told me nobody would be making it today and that the soonest they could come would be Monday. I said that wasn’t acceptable and that I needed someone today or tomorrow morning at the latest. He said that wouldn’t happen. I happen to live in MN and we are having some extreme cold weather and people are experiencing frozen and burst pipes. The supervisor told me that those customers were priority and that he could not get anyone to me today or tomorrow. At that point I asked him why nobody told me they were expecting a lot of emergencies for frozen and burst pipes and that their schedule was too full? They obviously knew the weather reports and it’s not like they just then got bombarded with calls for burst and frozen pipes. Had someone told me this earlier in the day I would have understood. But to continue to check in with me and tell me a technician is still coming until 5pm on Friday is NOT right. I will never use or recommend this company. This company is moving to AI and half the time you think you are talking to someone it’s actually AI. (It does sound very robotic but it also sounded like a real person that maybe just couldn’t work super fast.) Do better Genz Ryan. This is NOT how customers should be treated. Feel free to call me to get even more details of what occurred with your company today that I’m not putting in my review. I’ll also be filing something with the AG and Better Business Bureau. Leaving a customer without another functioning toilet on a Friday at 5pm is NOT right.

We made an appointment to have our furnace and water heater inspected because wee had a coupon to have it done. When the water heater was inspected, they said it needed a new anode rod, which we had them replace. When the furnace was inspected, they did recommend replacing it (it was 20 years old). The salesman said it could be be done 3 days later (a Monday). We agreed. The salesman said that if any problems arise or if we have any questions after it was installed, feel free to contact him anytime. He did mention that the furnace we chose was sized right so that the door to the laundry room, where the furnace is located, could close properly, which is code.
The next Monday arrived, and the crew was on time. They took out the old furnace and put in the new. They also replaced our thermostat. That took about 4.5 hours for all of that. They did a nice job of cleaning up afterwards. Later that afternoon, we noticed it was getting colder in the house, and the furnace was not turning on. We attempted to turn up the thermostat, but we were not given directions on how to do do, nor were we given a manual for the thermostat. We called the company itself, but they kept asking if we want to purchase a membership for reduced maintenance. We finally got through to someone who would send out someone to check it out that night.
A younger gentleman (mid-20s) did come out that evening, and soon as he saw the new furnace, he knew what was wrong right away: the installers never turned the gas back on! Also, he noticed that the furnace prevented the laundry room from closing completely. He turned the gas on, he was able to move the furnace so that the door could close completely. He then looked at the thermostat, took off the cover plate, showed us that the thermostat runs on AA batteries (which did not know),and showed us how to adjust it. He said he would tell the company to send us a manual for it.
The next day, we tried to call the salesman again, but never heard back! We did get ahold of someone at the company, who mentioned all of our complaints to (but praised the person who came the night before to fix things), and he said he will contact the salesman himself about the matter.
Unacceptable that an install team would leave before assuring the furnace was working.
