I had a gas leak in one of my pipes. They were prompt with both scheduling and the repair. Technician was easy to work with, and showed me everything when he was done to ensure I understood the leak had been repaired properly.

We hired Thelen specifically to test an outdoor temperature sensor bulb which is for a residential boiler. We very specifically told them that we needed someone experienced with old boilers and outdoor temperature sensors. When the heating tech arrived he showed me his instructions and they said that he was there to repair the boiler or give a quote to replace the boiler. Wrong! He checked a few things and then told me that it is not possible to test our particular type of outdoor temp sensor bulb. He then charged me $200 and left. He was wrong. I got someone else to show me how to test the bulb and it was working fine. The next morning my house was 59 degrees. The company said I would need to pay to have him come back and fix the problem that he created. I had to pay extra to hire another company to come to my house ASAP and they discovered that the guy from Thelen forgot to turn the boiler back on. He also left a sheet of paper laying on top of the boiler against the exhaust gas pipe which gets very hot. The pipe gets hot enough to have started the paper on fire. If he had not forgotten to turn the boiler back on we would have had a fire in the basement. We contacted the company several times but we did not get a response.

Run! Dishonest to make a buck. We recently moved in a older home wanted them to give me a bid for a sink replacement. While the tech was here he explained how for a few hundred dollars I could get a year contract to review our furnace and air conditioner too. Makes sense since we purchased older home. But now, I definitely won't have them back in the spring to look at our air conditioner even though I already paid for it. If I wanted to I could replace the sink myself in a few hours, but for convenience sake thought let's see. The bid to replace the sink was $2,000!. The cost of the sink was $394. Outrageous! So, even thought it felt like was getting taken advantage of by this company, I called to schedule for the furnace to be looked anyway since I already paid per the contract. The tech ran his test and said the furnace was failing and emitting high levels of carbon monoxide and had to shut it off immediately. They gave us a bid for $4,000 as he called it the "bandaid route"or up to $7,000 for all the parts he said needed to be to replaced. I did some research and found out the part was only $1,200. I could literally buy a new furnace for less. Plus to top it off after further research of my own I found the part was still under warranty if i really needed it. I chose to find a reputable local company to check my instincts that this whole deal wasn't right. This company ran the exact same test and said nothing is wrong with your furnace, normal wear and tear for a 9 year old furnace. Thank God there are still honest people in this business. I belive and other company is suspect that thier techs get a commission for sales. So, that explains everything! I normally wouldn't write a review but with this companies shrewd business tactics and I felt compelled to warn others!
