Tech got here and immediately noticed issues with my piping and told me he couldn’t work on my issues without replumbing two thirds of my house and quoted me nearly $7000 for the work, which included installing new flanges for the toilets but did not include installing new toilets. He then told me that if I bought my own new toilets while he was there doing the work it would cost an additional $600 each to install. Reinstalling my old toilets after replacing flanges would be included but installing a different toilet wouldn’t be? The same materials would have been used. No difference to the time. I understand my plumbing is not up to code and there are many issues with my piping that have to be fixed, but I paid $100 for a salesman to show up at my house and tell me he can’t work on anything and leave without fixing the active problems. James gets 5 stars for being professional and knowledgeable, and I understand he’s doing his job, but the way these new service companies operate is very disappointing. Techs are pushed to sell, sell, sell and who cares if the customer’s needs are actually met as long as they meet their numbers. In the end I called a smaller local company, told them my issues, told them I know the piping is not up to code, but I really needed the water to stop leaking into my basement for right now and paid them to correct the issues. They will be coming back to correct the rest of the plumbing later. They didn’t charge me $100 to do nothing. On the plus side, I’m now a Gold Member with priority service and get a 10% discount off the nearly $7000(could be $8000 with two toilets) quote and get my “Service” call fee waived for next time I want them to come out and do nothing. Maybe I’ll call them to look at a leaking outdoor faucet in the spring so they can scratch their heads again and tell me they can’t work on it unless I do $10,000 in other work. At least it won’t cost me $100.
