Frequently Asked Questions About Stoney Road Septic
Why do I need to pump my septic tank?
Look at septic pumping like an insurance policy on your septic system. Over time there is a buildup of sludge inside the tank which can reduce the capacity of the tank and allow unwanted scum to enter the leech field. This will decrease the life of your leach field and can lead to very costly repairs.
How often should I pump my septic tank?
The recommended time frame is 3-5 years. Heavy usage locations may require 1–2-year pumping schedules. While seasonal or light-use locations can go longer between maintenance pumping.
What is a baffle?
Your septic tank has two baffles, an inlet, and an outlet.
The inlet baffle is connected to the pipe entering the tank from your home. This points the entering liquid downward to not disturb the scum layer at the top of the tank. The outlet baffle, the most important, is attached to the pipe leaving the tank going to the leach field it keeps solids from leaving the tank and entering the field. Which can cause clogs and destruction of the leach bed.
What is an outlet baffle filter, and what to do if I have one?
An outlet baffle filter is an added layer or protection to keep unwanted sludge from entering your leach field. It is located on the outlet baffle of your septic tank. These filters should be cleaned at least twice a year to prevent them from clogging and causing sewage to back up in the house.
What if I don’t know where my tank is located?
We have a couple of different ways to help locate your tank. We can flush a transmitter and locate it with a handheld locator, or we can use a probe to poke down into the ground. Sometimes it’s as simple as a change in the landscape, greener grass, or an indent in a yard. Our drivers have years of experience and can assist you in locating your tank.
What if my tank cover is deep in the ground?
We offer riser installation, so you won’t have to dig it up again! We have plastic risers and covers for low-traffic areas and concrete risers and covers for driveways.
How many portable restrooms should I rent for my event?
Rule of thumb for an event lasting 3-6 hours 1 portable restroom will properly accommodate 50 people. If the event is longer or lasts multiple days, we recommend discussing your needs with the office to decide on the number of restrooms or a mid-event cleaning schedule.
What does my portable restroom rental include?
If you are renting for an event, your rental fee covers delivery and set up, toilet paper, hand sanitizer, and the removal. If you are renting long term, your monthly rental rate covers 1x weekly service, toilet paper, and hand sanitizer restocking as needed.
Can I move a portable restroom after it is delivered?
We ask that you not move a portable restroom after it has been placed by the driver. If there is a problem with the location, please contact the office and we will address the issue.
Do we pump out the black and grey water tanks on campers?
We can pump out recreational vehicles under specific conditions. All pumping must occur when a porta-potty truck is in the area cleaning a porta-potty route. The black and grey water valves MUST be easily accessible, we need to be able to get the truck within 20 feet of the valves. The valves must be in working order so we can properly attach the hose to them. All of this can be confirmed with the office before scheduling a service.
Why is it important to regularly pump my septic tank?
Regular pumping prevents sludge buildup, protects the leach field, and avoids costly repairs by maintaining tank capacity and preventing scum from entering the leach field.
How often should I schedule septic tank pumping?
Typically, septic tanks should be pumped every 3-5 years, but heavy use may require pumping every 1-2 years, while light-use locations can go longer between maintenance.
