  Had been dealing with a furnace issue for 2 weeks with another company that was very hard to deal with. In the 4 hours of working with Gelinas they were already more responsive, upfront and helpful then the other company. Jim was great. Will definitely be using Gelinas from now on!

  The technician was courteous, and clear and helpful at communicating what he found when he came to clean and inspect the forced hot air furnace in a home I recently purchased, and which Gelinas had serviced for the previous owner. (I am primarily using a new heat pump system, and am simply interested in whether it’s worth continuing to use this furnace as I have been, as occasional back up on very cold nights, or if instead it should be retired.) I was very disappointed that he would/could not complete the inspection by assessing the state of the heat exchanger inside. He said this was because the exhaust pipe was degraded to the point of nearly falling apart—his assumption was that the current pipe would crumble if he removed it to complete his inspection. While it should be replaced before I use the furnace again (because it could crumble at any time, creating a risk of fire ) he could not remove it to inspect the heat exchanger because I might turn on the furnace with the exhaust vent absent. However, he said he thought that if I agreed to the $1000 service to replace the exhaust vent pipe, they could check the heat exchanger before installing it, so I didn’t pay for that if there was further work to do (i.e., simply not installing the new vent pipe in that case ) I don’t really see how this situation is that different than him just checking the heat exchanger today by removing the exhaust vent pipe—and then either retiring the system if the furnace itself needed more work, or scheduling a replacement for that vent if I decide to keep it alive. Either way, I’d need to be aware to not turn on the furnace if it’s not fully hooked up! (and I presume there’s a way for him to disengage the signal from my thermostat to be sure the furnace doesn’t get turned on, if I was dumb enough to turn the thermostat up) It was disappointing not to get the full inspection that I need in order to make a decision, about either retiring the unit or replacing the vent pipe. Indeed, the entire purpose of the visit was to assess the long-term viability of the furnace itself, and it seems we did not accomplish that.

  I wish all companies operated like Gelinas. They installed our entire hydronic heating system in a 150 year old house a few year back and have been servicing us ever since. They are professional, courteous, and treated our house like their own. We had a recent boiler issue due to a manufacturer defect, Gelinas wrestled with the boiler company to cover the limited warranty and get the parts. They wound up replacing the boiler at no charge to us (with a different brand), reassessed and replaced piping in the basement. They went above and beyond. I especially appreciate Niles walking me through the details, giving me daily updates and making the project a priority during 10 degree weather. I highly recommend Gelinas.
