Beltsville, MD location – Misrepresentation, Poor Management, and Lack of Accountability
I am writing to formally share my experience with the Lumber Liquidators in Beltsville, MD, involving Senior Floor Specialist Marcel Matthews and Store Manager James Bond.
In December, Marcel Matthews quoted my flooring project at approximately $2,500, stating clearly that any final adjustments would only be “a few hundred dollars at most.” My aunt was present during this conversation. Unfortunately, I later received multiple drastically different quotes, with price differences totaling thousands of dollars, which felt like a classic bait-and-switch.
When I went into the store on January 3, 2026, to address this with Store Manager James Bond, his response was extremely unprofessional. While my aunt and I explained our concerns, he was chewing gum, laughing, and stated that Marcel “would not quote pricing that way,” essentially accusing us of lying. Only after my aunt presented photos taken directly from Marcel’s computer showing his calculations did James apologize — yet still claimed there was nothing he could do.
We reasonably asked whether a delivery or installation discount could be offered due to the misinformation and inconvenience. This was denied. Instead, I was later contacted and offered financing, which I never requested and was not the issue.
To make matters worse, I was also misinformed about warranties. Marcel stated that all flooring had a lifetime warranty, which is untrue for residential purchases. The flooring I originally selected actually had no warranty at all, meaning I would have had zero coverage had I moved forward.
The contrast in service elsewhere was night and day. After contacting customer service, Mary from the Lorton location reworked the numbers, removed charges I didn’t need, credited a disposal fee, and apologized for my experience. I then visited the Annapolis, MD location, where Aneya provided excellent, honest service and confirmed the correct warranty information. Because of their professionalism, they saved the sale.
I ultimately purchased my flooring through the Annapolis location and specifically requested that Beltsville receive no profit from my purchase due to their arrogance, misinformation, and lack of accountability.
This location does not take responsibility for its errors and accuses customers of dishonesty until proof is presented. I strongly recommend avoiding the Beltsville store and working with Annapolis or Lorton instead.
