So called for a no heat call and tech showed up on time and I showed him the furnace. I explained what I have tested (I forgot to cancel him but thought I figured out the problem and since he was there I figured I might as well verify I was right since he is the professional). Symptoms - furnace would light, run for a minute or and then shut down. Error code 31 and 33...So the tech comes in and hit the flame roll out switch and looked at the flame and said "your heat exchanger is cracked you need a new one" .. me can it be anything else? "No" ... me can it be dirty and just need to be cleaned? "No" ... the office will call you with an estimate... day later the office calls "labor for the heat exchanger will be $1000 and if any other repairs are needed that will be additional" hmmmm... I paid for diagnostics so why not test everything to give an accurate quote? Ex- igniter- not tested, capacitor (i knew was bad and had a replacement ordered) not tested and not on estimate, pressure switch- not tested, induction motor- not tested, blower- not tested, flame sensor- not tested... customer-tested and not happy! So before commiting to $1000 labor I did the testing... So what did the untrained homeowner discover?? Capacitor- Quick check with multi-meter (2 min- max) showed it was bad. Next check- 1 screw for flame sensor and visual inspection- a lot of build up. Cleaned with sandpaper. Restart- induction motor worked blower works (needs cleaning) pressure switch tested... hmmm everything you would expect a trained professional paid to diagnose a problem to do... Forgot to mention CLEANING THE FLAME SENSOR fixed the problem. Ordered flame sensor $9 and furnace is running perfectly... forgot to mention that cracked heat exchanger that can let out toxic gasses that could kill me... passed the test you use to diagnose a cracked heat exchanger.... I personally feel I was scammedwith this diagnosis!

They have always been efficient and professional with their workmanship. We had a leaky HVAC coil for what seemed like forever. Finally decided to compare prices and replace the entire older Trane unit to something far more energy efficient. It's now been months and the unit has been overall trouble-free. Thanks!

[UPDATE] I will keep this factual. I will not rehash the events of today, but regardless of that, here's the bottom line. I am two days away from the 1 month anniversary of having Perry Hall Heating & Air install a new HVAC system, and it still isn't fully functional with no estimate of when it will be repaired. I hope the owners notice my review and interpret it as an opportunity to grow and learn from my use case. I'll leave it at that.

Disappointed, but will update my rating if it's warranted.
I had a new HVAC system installed over a period of two days. The team seemed efficient, clean, and very professional. About a week later, I called them because the system was not heating nor functioning correctly. They were able to send out a technician that same day. The diagnosis was a clogged air filter, which was triggering the system to shutdown. Although the filter looked relatively clean (only 1 week of usage), there was some debris that was likely caused by the recent install and the possibility of things being shook loose. Although I questioned it, the technician was certain that was the cause. I will not pretend I know more than the "pros" and trusted his judgement. He reset the system and it seemed to be working. About a week and a half later, I had to call them again for the same issue and they were able to send someone out that same day. This time, I replaced the filter myself and it still was not functional. The current diagnosis is a freon leak in one of the lines outside and incorrect settings on the thermostat. I don't understand the thermostat portion of the diagnosis, so I will have to assume something was set incorrectly on the installation settings (something the original technicians would have set). Today, I am being told they will come by next week to repair the leak.
I'm not angry. I like to think I'm a reasonable person. Mistakes happen and I can't be certain that there was a misdiagnosis the first time. Regardless, these issues shouldn't be expected from a brand-new install. What's upsetting is that we were told someone would be out the next day to repair the line, but they would call first. The reality is that they were calling to schedule the repair for a later date (next week).
Again, I am not angry and I think I'm a reasonable person. I'm giving a "middle of the road" rating because this situation, especially this most recent response, is simply disappointing.
