Absolutely delighted with the tuckpointing work on our front steps! Decades of Boston winters had eaten away the mortar, and the bricks were completely loose. The crew from ShoreView came out, chipped away the bad stuff, and re-laid the bricks with a fresh mix. They were polite and made sure we always had a safe way to get in and out of the house while they worked. The steps feel rock solid now and give the whole house a nice facelift.

Finally a company that actually solves the root cause of a wet basement instead of just slapping a band-aid on it! For the last four years, every spring thaw turned our cellar into a shallow pool. We had to keep all our holiday decorations and winter clothes in plastic bins stacked on wooden pallets just to keep them from getting ruined. I tried buying that waterproof paint from the hardware store and painting the cinderblocks myself, but it bubbled and peeled off within a few months because the water pressure from the soil was just too strong.

So happy to finally have a usable basement again! We spent the last few years dealing with a flooded floor every time the snow melted, and it was ruining our storage boxes. I finally called ShoreView Masonry to see what they could do. They ended up putting in an interior French drain and a heavy-duty sump pump. The crew worked really fast, kept the dust down with plastic tarps, and poured new concrete over the trench so it looks totally seamless. We just had a heavy rainstorm and there wasnt a single drop of water down there. Worth every penny for the peace of mind alone.

Best decision we could have made for this 1920s brick house! When we bought the place, we knew the exterior needed some love, but I didnt realize how bad the mortar had gotten until pieces of it started falling onto the front walkway. The joints were completely recessed, and in some spots, you could almost pull a brick right out of the wall with your bare hands. We needed someone who understood historic masonry, not just a standard concrete guy who would ruin the look of the house.

Wow, they completely saved our backyard retaining wall. It was leaning over so far I thought the next rainstorm would send it crashing into the neighbors yard. They brought in a crew, dug out all the heavy dirt behind it, and rebuilt the whole thing with proper drainage stone so the water doesnt build up again. It is perfectly straight now and looks so much cleaner than the old rotting wood we had before. We can finally enjoy our patio without staring at a disaster waiting to happen.
Frequently Asked Questions About ShoreView Masonry - Basement & Foundation Repair Specialist
What basement masonry repair service do you provide?
Our basement masonry repair services address damaged brick, block, stone, and mortar in basement walls. This includes crack repair, mortar joint restoration (repointing), wall stabilization, and repairs for moisture-related damage. We provide comprehensive solutions to ensure the structural integrity of your basement walls.
What causes basement masonry damage?
Common causes of basement masonry damage include water intrusion and inadequate drainage, freeze-thaw cycles that expand and contract materials, hydrostatic pressure from water-saturated soil, foundation settling or soil movement around the structure, and deteriorating mortar or substandard original construction techniques.
Are cracks in basement walls normal?
Small hairline cracks can occur naturally as a house settles over time. However, cracks that widen progressively, horizontal cracks, stair-step patterns, or cracks with water seepage indicate more serious underlying issues that require professional inspection and repair.
What's the difference between vertical and horizontal cracks?
Vertical cracks typically result from normal house settling and are generally less concerning. Horizontal cracks, however, usually indicate external pressure from soil or water against the wall and represent significant structural concerns that require immediate professional attention.
Can basement masonry damage cause water leaks?
Yes, damaged masonry creates pathways for water infiltration. Cracked or deteriorated masonry allows moisture to penetrate your basement walls, resulting in leaks, dampness, mold formation, and persistent musty odors that can affect your indoor air quality.
How do you repair cracked masonry walls?
Our repair methods vary based on damage severity and underlying causes. Solutions may include epoxy or polyurethane crack injection for sealing, mortar joint repointing to restore integrity, masonry patching or block replacement for severely damaged areas, and structural reinforcement using carbon fiber straps or steel beams when necessary.
Is basement masonry repair permanent?
When properly diagnosed and expertly repaired, while also addressing underlying issues such as drainage problems or water pressure, masonry repairs can provide long-lasting or permanent solutions. Our comprehensive approach ensures we treat both symptoms and root causes.
What's the difference between damp-proofing and waterproofing?
Damp-proofing provides resistance against moisture but cannot withstand water under pressure. Waterproofing, by contrast, creates a complete barrier against water intrusion using specialized membranes, drainage systems, and sealants. Waterproofing provides superior durability and effectiveness for long-term basement protection.
What waterproofing methods are available?
We offer several waterproofing solutions including interior drainage systems, sump pump installations, exterior waterproof membrane applications, foundation crack repairs using epoxy or polyurethane, French drain installations, and improvements to grading and gutter systems. The optimal method depends on your specific water intrusion source and severity.
Is interior or exterior waterproofing better?
Exterior waterproofing prevents water entry before it reaches your foundation and provides the most comprehensive protection, though it involves more extensive excavation and higher costs. Interior waterproofing manages water after it enters your foundation walls and offers a more affordable, less disruptive alternative. Our professional assessment determines which approach best suits your specific situation.
