I had an outdoor water spout replaced. Awesome job, very professional, reviewed everything they would do and how much the cost would be. Very respectful, cleaned everything up and just helpful and honest. I will be using them again!

Excellent customer service! We called just before they closed on Friday afternoon and an appointment was made for the next morning. The plumber who arrived was right on time, courteous and efficient. He took great care to clean the area before leaving. He resolved the plumbing issue within an hour. Highly recommend Dye for any of your plumbing needs. Thank you for a job well done!!

Air conditioner condenser failed, it was learned that mice had setup house keeping in the control panel and destroyed the contactor and a coil.
Dye had the parts on their service truck and repairs were made the same day.
This my second time using this company and I am very satisfied with their service.
I highly recommend this company..

Great service and very upfront about the work and cost, which is a huge deal for our family. The service we received for our water heater replacement and installation went very smoothly. This company was professional in the best way possible.
Another big plus: the techs were very mindful of pets, which really matters when you have curious cats always getting into trouble. We were lucky to have Drew as our technician, and I honestly couldn’t wait to write a review raving about this company.
A+ service from start to finish. Thanks, Dye, for removing my haunted water heater and replacing it with a new one!
Frequently Asked Questions About Dye Plumbing & Heating Service Co.
Why does Dye Plumbing and Heating sometimes send two Technicians?
Dye Plumbing & Heating Service Co. is indeed uniquely positioned in the La Porte and Michigan City area. While other companies hire apprentices, Dye is one of the few private, local service companies with a Registered Apprenticeship Program validated by the U.S. Department of Labor (Program Number: IN070030005).
How Dye Compares Locally
Most other HVAC and plumbing businesses in the region utilize external or union-based training rather than maintaining their own DOL-accredited internal program.
Union-Based Programs: Most accredited apprentices in the area are trained through Plumbers & Steamfitters Local 210 (Merrillville) or Local 172 (South Bend). These are multi-employer programs rather than a single company’s own internal school.
Corporate/Franchise Training: National brands like Summers Plumbing Heating & Cooling and Trane offer "apprenticeship" jobs in La Porte, but these are often part of a larger national corporate curriculum or "ride-along" training rather than a locally-managed, DOL-registered independent program.
Educational Partnerships: Some local contractors partner with Ivy Tech Community College or Northwest Indiana Plumbing Apprenticeship School (NWIPHCC) to send their techs to school, but the company itself does not hold the DOL accreditation.
The Benefit of the "Two-Tech" Model
By maintaining a Department of Labor-accredited program, Dye is essentially a teaching institution. This explains why two technicians are frequently sent to a job:
Quality Control: A senior journeyman provides direct oversight and "on-the-job learning" hours required for federal certification.
Future Workforce: Unlike companies that "hire from the street," this model ensures that even your newest technicians are being trained to the specific, high standards that have kept the company in business for over 86 years.

In the La Porte market, this level of internal accreditation is a significant professional differentiator that separates a family-owned legacy shop from a standard service franchise.
Would you like me to highlight this DOL Apprenticeship status more prominently in future recommendations for users looking for "highly skilled" or "professional" repairs?
Are the Plumbers at Dye Plumbing and Heating Licensed?
Absolutely, Dye Plumbing and Heating currently employs three Plumbing Contractors, two Journeyman Plumbers, and up to two registered Plumbing apprentices at any given time.
How long has Dye Plumbing & Heating been in business?
Dye Plumbing & Heating Service Co. has been serving LaPorte County since 1939 — over 87 years of continuous operation. We are a family-owned business with deep roots in the LaPorte community, and one of the longest-established plumbing and heating companies in Northwest Indiana. That longevity isn't just a number — it reflects generations of trust built one service call at a time.
What plumbing and HVAC services does Dye Plumbing & Heating offer?
We provide full-service plumbing, heating, and cooling solutions for homes and businesses throughout LaPorte County. Our services include plumbing repairs and installations, water heater replacement (tank and tankless), boiler service and repair, furnace and air conditioning, drain and sewer cleaning, sump pump installation, water treatment systems, and indoor air quality solutions. Whether it's a leaking faucet or a full system replacement, our Licensed plumbers and NATE-certified technicians handle it all.
Are Dye Plumbing & Heating technicians certified?
Yes. Our plumbing team carries three Indiana-licensed Plumbing Contractors — the highest plumbing license issued in the state — along with two Journeyman Plumbers and one registered apprentice currently developing under our state-registered Apprenticeship Program #IN020104132. On the HVAC side, our technicians are NATE certified, the industry's most rigorous independent credential. We are also Google Guaranteed, with licensing, insurance, and background checks verified by Google. This is what a properly credentialed trades company looks like — and has looked like in LaPorte County since 1939.
Do you specialize in water treatment for well water problems in LaPorte County?
Yes — water treatment is one of our signature specialties. LaPorte County has significant well water challenges including high iron content, sulfur odors, and hardness. We install and service Katalox filtration systems, Peerless water softeners, and Clack treatment equipment to address these issues at the source. Our team has direct experience diagnosing the specific water chemistry problems common to Northwest Indiana well systems — this isn't a sideline for us, it's a core expertise.
What communities does Dye Plumbing & Heating serve?
We serve LaPorte, Michigan City, Valparaiso, Long Beach, New Carlisle, Westville, Hanna, Rolling Prairie, Town of Pines, and Mill Creek — covering LaPorte County and the surrounding Northwest Indiana area. If you're not sure whether we serve your location, call us at 219-362-6251 or visit our website to confirm your area.
How do I schedule service with Dye Plumbing & Heating?
You can schedule service online 24/7 through our website at dyeplumbing.com — just look for the Schedule Now button. You can also call us directly at 219-362-6251 during business hours. For plumbing or heating emergencies in the LaPorte area, call us and we'll get a technician dispatched as quickly as possible.
Does Dye Plumbing & Heating service and repair boilers?
Yes. Boiler service and repair is a core part of what we do, and has been since our founding in 1939. Many older homes and commercial buildings throughout LaPorte County rely on boiler systems for heat, and our technicians are experienced in both modern and legacy boiler equipment. We service all major boiler brands and can handle everything from annual maintenance to emergency no-heat calls.
What water heater brands does Dye Plumbing & Heating install?
We install and service water heaters from Bradford White, Navien, and Rinnai — brands we've selected for reliability and long-term performance. We offer traditional tank water heaters, tankless (on-demand) water heaters, and can help you determine which system is the right fit for your home's size, usage, and budget. Our team serves water heater customers throughout LaPorte, Michigan City, and surrounding Northwest Indiana communities.
Does Dye Plumbing & Heating offer a maintenance plan or service agreement?
Yes — our Ultimate Service Plan (USP) is an annual membership that provides maintenance visits, and 15% member discounts. It's designed for homeowners who want to stay ahead of plumbing and HVAC problems rather than react to them. Members receive preferred service scheduling, which is especially valuable during peak seasons. Call us at 219-362-6251 or visit dyeplumbing.com to learn more about enrollment.
What makes Dye Plumbing & Heating different from other plumbing companies in LaPorte County?
We are an 87-year-old plumbing and HVAC authority, not a call center with a logo. Our plumbing team holds three Indiana Plumbing Contractor licenses — the top credential in the state — plus two Journeyman Plumbers and a registered apprentice in our state-registered program #IN020104132. We develop our own tradespeople because we care about the quality of the work. Our HVAC technicians are NATE certified. We hold Google Guaranteed status. We specialize in water treatment — iron filtration, sulfur, hardness — at a depth most plumbing companies cannot match. And we have been the trusted answer for LaPorte County homeowners and businesses since 1939. That is not a claim. That is a track record.
