Private equity ruins everything. Frye Electric is now owned by Hope Plumbing of which Redwood Services, a private equity firm, holds the majority stake.
I'm going to start this review with a caveat that I used Frye Electric in 2025 before they were under Hope / PE for installing a radon fan outlet, removing hot tub electrical and installing a bathroom heater. I had a great experience then. The prices I thought were fair, the team was quick and got the job done professionally. I should have given them 5 stars then.
Today's review is about an inspection after my home got hit by lightning. The inspection cost $375 and was effectively a brief inspection of the panel and going around with a $10 outlet tester and testing GFCIs and took ~30 min while I was picking up my kid.
The result was that the plug in tester indicated that the entire house had "reverse polarity" where the hot/neutral wires were flipped on every single outlet. Their observations were based on the plug in tester (not pulling an outlet and inspecting, I'll get to that next). Frye was going to charge $1800 to correct this.
After they left, bought a $10 plug in outlet tester and observed the same that they had throughout the house. Hot/Neutral flipped on every outlet. So I picked a circuit, cut the breaker, pulled all 6 outlets on it and visually inspected it myself. Hot/Neutral were correct on every outlet and everything was securely connected. I put all of the outlets back together and flip the breaker. Not having touched a single wire, I retest with the outlet tester. The circuit that I inspected is now reading "correct" on the tester. Befuddled, I test every outlet in the house. 98% of them now read "correct".
To add to this, the utility company came out to inspect their side, cut power to the house and now every circuit is back to reading Hot/Neutral reversed.
This is a long story to say, I got charged $375 to observe an issue and incorrectly root cause. I believe there's something wrong and it's not what Frye diagnosed. It could be behind the panel, with an individual breaker, like the one I reset, an issue in an old panel turned junction box, or some other issue. It would be another $375 to call Frye out to "diagnose" the same issue and another day to fix. I'm going to go with another company who assured me that they would get this taken care of the same day and whose diagnostic fee was half of Frye/Hope's and is applied to the first hour of the fix.
I am going to add that the $375 diagnostic fee gets waived or lessened if you're a member of their loyalty program. These membership programs are ruining previously good companies. Thanks private equity!
2* because the guys were nice enough and waited for me for ~10 min after they wrapped while I was picking up my kid. They did give me more information - though not $375 worth.

I contacted Frye Electric for a quote for an electric vehicle charging station. The visit for a quote was scheduled quickly. The technician Chris was thorough and explained options for the installation and asked about the other quotes I received. Frye was the most cost effective provider and scheduled the install quickly. The install was also quick and looks great. Everyone throughout the process was kind and helpful!
