He said he was going to try to unclog the main line, and if it didn't work we would pay nothing for it. Unfortunately, there was a bigger problem. Someone else had to come out and put a camera in our pipes. They found roots from our tree in the pipes. Now we were looking at a $5000 bill to dig up and replace the tile/pipes. So far, not a fun time, but reasonable actions from Roto Rooter. The man said, "we'll get this done for you tonight." It was not done that night, but he would tell me the same thing several times for a few nights. They started digging and said that the problem would be better fixed if they replaced all of the pipe out to the main line. They suggested that they dig around my tree (some wonderful person 50 years ago planted a tree on the pipes). Not great, but I agreed. Now my bill was $7500. The man promised me my bill would not go up after this. Part way through digging up my yard, the city tells Roto Rooter that they can't dig around my tree because it will fall down. So, the city offers to pay to fix the road if Roto Rooter creates a new connection to the public line. So, my bill has reached an unaffordable level, and I'm left with two options: 1, go back to the original plan to replace the broken section of pipe, or 2, come up with thousands of dollars I don't have. So, I ended up paying more for the service I should have stuck with from the beginning. Why didn't RR layout all of my options from the beginning instead of blindsiding me every step of the way? Why didn't RR check with the city before digging and charging me a bunch of moolah? Why did RR give me a false sense of security and keep changing the plan multiple times?
