Tom provided a detailed work order and contract, as well as a window of time when the work would be done. They finished on budget and within that time frame, and coordinated with our carpenters working on repairs. The crew arrived every day bright and early and well prepared for the work and it was amazing to watch their skill and artistry and see the progress each day. We had a 2-week job given the extent of the wear and damage on the house, there were whole sections of stucco missing, myriad holes in the walls, and extensive ivy growth. The crew added new stucco replete with the galvanized wire mesh and amazingly made it match perfectly. The ivy had to be burned off with torches, which had to have been a tedious job, but they absolutely pulled it off. Likewise, a previous owner painted the stucco and much of this had to be scrapped and brushed off--like Tom says, "Don't paint your stucco!" They finished the work with a custom color of our choice and it was perfect. I know some reviews say that Tom can be brusque, though in my experience I found him to simply be no-nonsense and straightforward. It was always a pleasure talking with Tom as well as Eddie, and certainly Spiro who managed the worksite. I recommend Chicago Stucco especially for extensive jobs, and plan to work with them again in the future to stucco our garage. Check out the pictures to see their amazing work!

Can you clean stucco?
Unfortunately, cleaning stucco effectively is quite challenging. Due to its porous nature, stucco tends to absorb dirt and pollutants over time, making them difficult to remove completely.
Can you paint stucco?
We do not recommend painting stucco. Most paints are designed for wood and metal surfaces, not cement-based materials like stucco. Instead, we utilize an acrylic, water-repellent coating specifically formulated for cement surfaces.
Can I change the color of my stucco with your process?
Yes, it's possible to change your stucco to almost any color you desire. We offer color samples and color-matching services to help you choose. We have successfully changed the color of numerous homes.
What colors are available?
We can produce virtually any color or shade you prefer. The only limitations are ultra-deep tones and certain color shades.
Can you match colors?
We can match most colors, with a few exceptions. It's particularly challenging when dealing with old, raw cement, surfaces with inconsistent appearances, or those coated with glossy paints.
Can you match textures?
Absolutely. Texture matching is one of our specialties, and we have extensive experience in this area. We consider it a key strength of our company.
Can you fix cracks?
Yes, we can repair cracks. This is typically done during a recoating job when changing the color. Most hairline cracks are not serious. In previously painted structures, cracks are often in the paint layer rather than the stucco itself.
If I have my home stucco recoated now, can an addition to the home be matched to the stucco recoating 3 to 5 years later?
Yes, we can match additions to your existing stucco. The main variable is the age of the stucco, as it naturally accumulates dirt and oxidizes over time. For best results, we recommend completing all remodeling before applying the stucco coating. Work done 3 to 5 years later may appear slightly lighter or cleaner when first applied.
What is the difference between cement stucco and Dryvit?
Cement stucco is a traditional exterior plaster that has been used for millennia. It's commonly found on older homes. Dryvit, or EIFS, is a more recent synthetic product consisting of a thin layer over styrofoam. It's been used in the us for about 30 years and is primarily intended for masonry applications, not wood frame construction.
Do you use EIFS, synthetic stucco or Dryvit products?
We exclusively use traditional cement stucco. While we briefly used synthetic products in the past, we have discontinued their use due to concerns about durability and moisture-related issues.
