Nate Millizer exceeded my expectations in fixing my toilet. He quickly diagnosed what was wrong and fixed it. Not only did he fix one toilet but I mentioned another one was having the same issue and he fixed that one! He was so nice and professional. Nothing but five stars for him and I will ask for him personally the next time I need a plumber.
Called to schedule an appointment and had to talk to an AI to make the appointment, which surprisingly worked fine but would prefer to talk to an actual person. The robot booked me an appointment for a 9-11am time slot the next day. At 9:35 I got a text saying they couldn’t make it today and offered me a $25 credit. Glad I cleared my schedule.
Called to get a water heater fixed and they called back and said the tech would be there in a half and hour depending on traffic after not showing up in a hour I called them and apparently they don’t work on mobile homes it would of been nice if they would of said something before making the appointment.or called me back and let me know that they couldn’t do the job very bad business and I would not recommend them.

Jason Rasmussen from Schaal Heating and Cooling was outstanding from start to finish. He came out to run a diagnostic on my system, which I had been told was newer than it actually turned out to be, and he handled the situation with complete professionalism and honesty.
He took the time to walk me through everything, explained my options clearly, and helped me come up with a solid plan moving forward. What really stood out was how straightforward he was. He gave clear numbers, stayed right to the point, and there were absolutely no hidden fees or surprises.
On top of that, Jason is just a genuinely great person. He was extremely kind, understanding, and easy to talk to. Honestly one of the nicest people you could ask for. If you’re working with Schaal Heating and Cooling, I highly recommend requesting Jason.

I hired this company to perform two tasks; one was the installation of electrical putty and using a silicone seal on connection to the electrical meter box. This was completed by Larry. This was done well on 04/06, and I have zero complaints about that work. There was an issue where Schaal didn't contact Mid American to turn off the electricity, claiming they thought I was going to do that for them. This caused them to reschedule that task for 04/10.
The other task I hired them for was to correct the angle on my powerbox. It is currently at a steep angle, and mid America has stated this could cause electrical problems in the future in addition to being unsightly. Remounting the box was also part of this.
The picture here is the state of the power box after the technician, Carlos, stated they were finished, The angle was not corrected, and the only work completed was that a single screw was used to remount the electrical meter box to my siding. For this, I was charged the full amount for the angle correction repair, which was $298.00 pre-tax.
Mid American stated that the box itself needed to be replaced, had to have been done before the box was opened and it was possible for Schaal to install the single screw securing the box to the home. Given that this box will be replaced within weeks, this was completely unnecessary and when the new box is soon installed, it will require the removal of the old box and reinstallation and remounting of the new box.
I have paid for work that was not completed. The reason Schaal was out on 04/10 was to correct the angle of the electric meter box, and none of that work was completed. All the Schaal team did was let Mid American open up the box and then they put a single screw through it into the same hole the siders used three years ago. It doesn't make any sense to remove and then reset the mount in exactly the same spot without doing the main job itself, which was levelling the electric box. This work will have to be completely redone, was entirely unnecessary, and doesn't make any sense considering Schaal send me a bid that would require redoing that exact task again next week.
The angle is completely unchanged and none of the work that will lead to the angle being levelled was performed. I would like a refund of the $298.00. Please take back your $171.00 credit for a future invoice, I do not want it.
My only other experience with this company was back in 2021 when they were brought in to fix a toilet that kept running. They tried to sell me a new toilet, replaced a few plastic parts inside the basin, and charged me $492.84. The problem wasn't fixed. I then hired a local guy for about a quarter of the price. He replaced the connector hose/supply line and that fixed the problem. The toilet has since worked without issue.
I contacted the company with these issues shortly after their tech left and was told a manager would call me back. I never received a call from them.
To summarize, I was charged for a repair that did not occur, and all that occurred that day was that Carlos watched Mid America open the box, did not complete any portion of the main task (levelling the electric meter box), literally removed and then re-installed one screw in exactly the same spot, and charged me $298.00 plus tax for it this.
I have filed a complaint against this company with the Iowa Utilities Commission. It’s also very interesting to see 1-2 year old reviews editing themselves whenever I add detail to this review. Never saw that before, lol. In my own opinion, many of these reviews look to be very manipulated. I’ve never seen multi year old reviews edited like this with no real changes before.
It’s been over a week and I still haven’t received the callback they said they would give me last Friday.
