Six months after my fence was installed I noticed bowed fence post, boards pulling away from the post, splintered wood and shotty worksmanship. Called to see if they would come back out to take a look at it and was told they would. A month went by with no word from one of the part owners, Kevin. I texted him to see if he planned on coming out to look at it and he immediately called me with a confrontational demeanor informing me that he already came by to look at it (which i suspect was a lie considering I never received a follow up or informed that he stopped by) and said “thats just what wood does” and it’s no longer under warranty. He then proceeded to berate me for not noticing the defects sooner and said the most he was willing to do would be to come out when it gets warm to “run some more screws through” which I could obviously do myself. If you want to pay a ton of money for a crappy looking fence, Scott County Fencing is the place to go! If you’d appreciate being talked down to by a rude jerk look no further!

Cut to the chase: Pros: fair value overall, quality seems to be good (4 months in), installation within a few weeks. Cons: communication was poor, the final total was higher than contracted. Researching and purchasing a fence was a learning experience for us. I didn't realize how difficult it was to get in touch with companies (several local businesses did not return calls at all). Tom Rudd did call back, and was pleasant to work with. Their proposal was not the lowest, but they were close and agreed to a minor discount to match the lowest bid we received. Fence installation was quicker than expected (about a week to start work). The installation was finished within about a week (4' vinyl coated chain link). It has been four months and the fence does not seem to have any issues. However... communication during / after the installation was poor. No contact to let us know what days they would be there to perform the next stage of the work, or when it would be completed. In fact, after the workers left the last time there was no contact for almost a week until I called Tom (see below). After installing the fence there was a gap where the fence met the house. I called Tom and he said he had a custom piece to install. He came out a week or so later, bolted it on, and advised us of an additional cost. Before authorizing the fence installation I had asked him - specifically and in person - "what could change the total?". His reply: "Nothing, Ryan: this will be the total!" He later confirmed he said this, but had been mistaken. I debated between 3 and 4 stars because the total price ended up being higher than the Estimate and some of the installation seemed a little messy / uneven. I pulled out the estimate sheet to verify, and it says (in part): "'Any...extra costs [will be charged] only upon written orders". This was not our experience. The additional piece was needed, and I believe he did try to be fair... but it was still different from what was promised. And instead of coming to us when he realized the issue and discussing / updating the Proposal, he informed us after the installation was complete. Which brings me to my final takeaway: I think the value was fair, and they were able to get the work done within a few weeks, but communication was poor.

Scott County Fence is a flyby night operation. The owner is Tom let me tell you about Tom. I called for a estimate so Tom came out and i got a good price and Tom said he would have it up in 2-3 weeks so i agreed. After week 4 i called Tom no answer and no call back. Week 5 no answer no call back so i started calling other contractors. Tom then calls me and said he was sorry for not returning my calls and he was ready for the install, at that point i should have hung up on him but i said go ahead. The fence went up and it looked good but after 2 months i noticed that i had 5 boards that split so i called Tom he actually answered and said he would be out that week to make the repairs guess what Tom never showed up so i called Tom and left him a voicemail every week for another 2 months with no call back. So beware of this shady company.
