- MCMark Clipsham3 days ago1.0I'm an architect and active builder for many decades. We have two air to air heat pumps in our home. The other was installed by Pritchard Bros. We priced out a new system from both - Neighbors install/equip price was lower. Both companies tried to upsell us on super high efficiency models that would use the heat pump feature at lower temp levels. The numbers crunched did not add up - the extra cost for the upgrade per month over its (10 year +/-) life time was higher than our entire utility bill and more high tech tends to have more problems. But regular heat pumps have their share of problems too - service calls run about $200/ea. Tired of waking up to a cold bedroom. Back pressure turns off the system - Neighbors is very touchy - replaced the pleated filter with a mesh which will not keep the coils clean but won't shut off the system. The outside air temp monitor of theirs is battery powered not integral with the equipment!!! The system shuts off for other unknown reasons somewhat frequently when it gets "really" cold - $200, or I get to go play with the breakers/thermostat right after getting up in the AM. I have Prichard service both of them. Next home - all mini-splits installed by myself. Working on a prototype airbnb/affordable home now - see attached. Super energy efficient - takes out a lot of the problems.
- KMKim McBride3 days ago5.0My heat decided to stop working about 6pm on Sunday evening. I spent about 30 min doing what I felt confident doing and waiting to see if it would start. I finally contacted Neighbors and Matt came from Nevada to my home in Ames. We talked about the service list of indicators and what to do. Heat restored I slept until 2am when the cold woke me. 55 degrees. Shut off thermostat, switches and later restarted and used reset button following directions for what my indicator code was telling me. Within an hour heat restored I slept through a night of sub zero temperature in comfort. I was so thankful for Matt and the Neighbor team responding and helping keep us warm. And no charges yet as I’m on their yearly plan. Whatever the charge it is worth it for peace of mind.
- MFMaria FranklinFeb 18, 20261.0So when the first guy came over he said they would be doing around the vent of the roof , then a different guy comes and they don't do that , and now we have water leaking down our furnace ! Also they said you need these two parts and then they come and change those and it immediately shuts off again this was not worth 1000 dollars, this sucks .
