AVOID HOWDENS STOCKPORT AT ALL COSTS!!
I deeply regret ever buying a kitchen from this branch. What was sold to me as a “premium” kitchen turned out to be cheap, defective rubbish backed up by some of the worst customer service and management I have ever experienced.
I spent over £7,500 total on my kitchen, including expensive “premium” solid oak worktops and fitting by a builder THEY directly recommended and vouched for. Someone who fits, ‘’around 20 Howdens kitchen each year.’’ Within months the worktops started pulling away from the wall, dipping around the sink and eventually collapsing. The units and end panels warped, bent and even started peeling. This is not normal wear and tear as they still had the protective wrapping on - the products are clearly poor quality and completely unfit for purpose.
Despite being well within their advertised one-year warranty, Howdens did absolutely everything possible to avoid honouring it. Instead of taking responsibility for supplying faulty products, they endlessly blamed myself and the fitter - the same fitter THEY recommended in the first place. They’d go on to say, “you should have vetted them yourself”. Then suddenly, only AFTER the products failed, they started claiming that I personally should have oiled the worktops underneath before the installation. This was NEVER properly explained to me at the point of sale because if it was, I would never have touched these worktops in the first place. I am a customer, not a tradesman and Howdens showed time and time again that they only care about their relationships with tradespeople - they couldn’t care less about regular customers.
Even more embarrassing for them, the exact same worktop displayed in their own showroom only has oil on the top surface, not underneath. They couldn’t even follow their own supposed “requirements”.
After weeks of stress they agreed to replace only one damaged section, as a “favour”. I had to take time off work, pay builders again, disconnect plumbing, remove the sink and dismantle my kitchen. Then the replacement arrived already defective straight out of the packaging - bent, uneven and covered underneath with badly filled holes and glue. Absolute GARBAGE quality control!!
The behaviour from Store Manager was disgusting throughout. Rude, dismissive, defensive and completely unhelpful. Instead of trying to resolve anything, he treated me like I was a problem for expecting a kitchen to last more than a few months.
When I said I would escalate the matter because he refused to properly honour the warranty, he actually threatened to cancel the replacement order knowing I was currently living without a functioning kitchen, because I was apparently “going to cause him problems”.
That store manager and this branch take your money happily enough, but when their products fail they become defensive, hostile and utterly useless. They hide behind excuses, blame everyone else and refuse to properly stand behind the products they sell.
I would strongly advise anyone considering this Howdens branch to avoid entirely unless you want expensive problems, poor-quality products, months of stress and absolutely no support when things go wrong.

We recently bought a kitchen through Howdens. We were charged an initial deposit to secure the price etc. however when we paid off the balance, we were changed the full amount in error rather than just the remaining balance (i.e. we were overcharged £1,400). When we chased this up, we were told we had to visit the store to get a refund, which was a 50 mile round trip. Upon arrival we were informed that the extra £1,400 they had taken from us has been used to pay off another of our builder’s projects and we need to chase this up with them. They are refusing to give us this money back and we are now currently £1,400 out of pocket because of Howdens’ incompetence and non-compliance with getting this resolved.

Really helpful and attentive staff. Sharon really spent the time helping me with a complicated order. It's that kind of service that makes for repeat customers. Nothing was too much effort. Thanks again.
