Howdens Joinery is the UK's largest manufacturer and supplier of fitted kitchens, appliances and joinery products to trade professionals. Our depot in Cheltenham stocks a range of products including integrated kitchens, kitchen appliances, doors and joinery, hardware, and flooring.
At Howdens, we stock everything trade professionals need to help create high quality, stylish kitchens. With over 100 kitchen styles in stock, and an excellent range of accessories and finishes, each kitchen can be tailored to different needs and budgets. Our depots also offer a free kitchen design service.
In addition to kitchens, we stock a range of solid wood, engineered wood, laminate and vinyl flooring, interior and exterior doors and hardware.
If only our relationship ended as nicely as it started. The design stage was great; together with Mel we generated what looked like a perfect kitchen for our constrained space and quirky layout. Delivery date agreed, bill paid in full, installers booked in.
In the middle of the installation process we realized that one of the parts delivered (a carousel mechanism) was different to what we'd chosen at the depot - much smaller and barely half as efficient. After discussing with Howdens we were told that our units were smaller and so they came with a smaller, simpler carousel.
Those simpler carousels (we ordered two) didn't quite land for us, so we asked to return them for a refund. That's when the fun part started.
The guys at the depot came back with all sorts of reasons not to accept the carousels back, some on the border of insanity.
Like "we can substitute your units for bigger ones with proper-size carousels". Yeah right, let's just scrap the two weeks of scrupulous design process and shove those oversized units in [because we've already spent our bonus ;)].
Or, "the carousel is an integral part of the cupboard and can only be returned with it". Yeah right #2, it took our builder ten minutes to unscrew some eight screws holding one in place, [but we would feel real pain returning you money, so it will be only fair if you feel some pain by paying your builder extra hours for dismantling and returning the whole unit instead].
(sarcasm is mine of course, or is it really?)
Ultimately, we were told that the carousels were not returnable, but as a "gesture of goodwill" they could send us two regular shelves to put in instead of carousels, for free. Cherry on the cake - leaving us with £800-1000 worth of unneeded, unused, and unsellable items (with no fault of ours!) and throwing in two shelves available for £30 from B&Q. Bravo Adrian.
Everyone is a nice guy when things are going right, but problems that arise and need solving are very good in exposing the real character. You guys have sadly shown that you put your profit above everything. I can't say that loss of a few hundred quid is a pinprick for us, but, ultimately, it's only money, which we surely will earn again, and do so in an honest way. Sorry for some really nice chaps working at your place, I'm sure many of you guys don't share the attitudes of your bosses. The two stars are for you.
P. S. The kitchen eventually ended up very nice, but of course I don't recommend this place. Everyone can sell nicely looking cabinets - when the things are going right, of course.

Wanted to view some kitchens, more to look at than my local store but quite limited given their range, picked up brochures and enquired about internal doors and flooring. The rep was very helpful and friendly and there is a small amount of parking

I’m extremely disappointed with the service I received this morning from a young female employee at Howdens Cheltenham who refused to provide a quote for the cost to cover 2 bedroom floors with engineered wood despite the fact that I used Howdens in Cirencester last April to fit out a kitchen. She made no effort to help identify me as a Howdens customer and her manner was offhand and obstinate. Whatever happened to customer service. Poorly trained in my opinion.
