As a business owner myself, I understand the importance of respecting customers’ time and communicating clearly. Unfortunately, my experience with Christian Brothers fell far below that standard.
I originally called because the heat in my home wasn’t working. I was told a technician would come out that day, so I waited two hours. Then I received another call—this time from a different employee—asking me the exact same questions I’d answered earlier. When I asked whether the technician was still coming, she wasn’t able to tell me and said her supervisor would call me.
A few minutes later, I received a call informing me that their “normal” price of $139 would now be $300 because it was considered after hours. This, despite the fact that they were the ones who delayed for two hours. They were perfectly willing to charge extra for after-hours service, yet seemed to care nothing about the hours of my time they had already wasted. As a business owner, I find that reprehensible.
Against my better judgment, I agreed to schedule for the next day between 10:00 am and 12:00 pm. At 12:20, with no technician in sight, I called for an update and was told they were having “IT issues.” I still don’t know what that had to do with their inability to show up on time. I was later told the technician was simply running behind and would arrive within 30 minutes.
The only reason this review is two stars instead of one is because Chris, the technician, was absolutely wonderful. He was polite, thorough, and honest. He explained that the issue involved a valve that needed replacement and gave me a quote (from his boss) of $985. I asked for an itemized estimate, which he agreed to send. Hours passed—no quote. I called and left a message—still no quote.
The next day, the company called to ask if I wanted to move forward with the repair, even though I still had not received the itemized estimate. After I pushed again, they emailed me a “quote” that simply said “valve replacement” with a total price—no breakdown of labor, part cost, or time involved. When I replied that this was not an itemized quote, I received yet another message asking if I planned to move forward.
I ended up getting a second estimate from another company. Their quote was $388, and they also completed a full inspection of both units.
Needless to say, I will not be using or recommending Christian Brothers again. Respecting a customer’s time and providing transparent pricing are basic business practices—and this company failed on both counts.
