- TDThomas DillsJan 12, 20201.0In mid December my tenant reported the emergency heat was not functioning. A Del Air technician came out, tested everything, and determined the thermostat was malfunctioning and, for $300, replaced the thermostat. About 3 weeks later my tenant reported the emergency heat was still not working. A different Del Air technician (Tom) came out. Tom was rude. He lectured my tenant about changing air filters - which was not the problem. He lectured me on how heat pumps and emergency heaters work - he told me repeatedly that the emergency heater was only 6 kilowatts and that's underpowered since the heat pump is 5 tons - but being underpowered wasn't the problem. He concluded that a control board was.the problem but this would require ordering a part and scheduling another service call. He charged $80 for this diagnosis (the lecture was provided at no additional cost). The thermostat was never the problem but I need another $250 repair to get the heater fixed. Very frustrating. Jan 22 - after waiting 10 days for the needed part, I called Del Air and was informed that the part has not been ordered. They were waiting for me to reply to an e-mail (despite all previous business being handled via telephone). The number provided by Michelle Riddle in Del-Air's response (below) is not a valid phone number. It was 30 degrees last night.
