I had a very poor experience with Mid Florida Heating & Air and would not recommend them.
On 7/2, our air conditioner stopped cooling, and we contacted Mid Florida for service. On 7/3, their technician diagnosed the issue as a failed compressor and quoted $1,879 for labor, stating the compressor itself was under warranty. We were without air conditioning from 7/2–7/7, during extreme heat, with indoor temperatures reaching the 90s.
The compressor was installed on 7/7, but the unit never properly cooled afterward. Despite payment in full, the original problem was not resolved.
When I returned home on 7/9 and found the house still at 83 degrees with the thermostat set to 73, I called Mid Florida again. The same technician returned and claimed there was a possum in the unit, advising me to call animal control and suggesting I consider replacing my entire AC system—even though the unit is only 3 years old and still under warranty.
On 7/10, Terminix confirmed there was no possum and no damage to the unit. That same day, I reviewed Mid Florida’s invoice and discovered there was no detailed breakdown of the work allegedly performed on 7/7—only a vague reference to “major repair,” with no parts or services listed.
A second Mid Florida technician came out and provided a new estimate for $1,972 to replace a liquid drier and TXV—components that should have been addressed during the compressor replacement. A licensed professional later confirmed that Mid Florida essentially left the job incomplete.
Despite requesting to speak with a manager, I never received a call back.
I was forced to hire other companies:
Three companies confirmed the issue was not properly diagnosed or repaired.
Green Tech Air ultimately fixed the unit on 7/29–7/30, restoring cooling for the first time since the failure on 7/2.
Because Mid Florida failed to properly diagnose and repair the issue, provided no meaningful documentation, and gave conflicting and inaccurate explanations, I disputed the charge with my bank and successfully received a credit.
Consumers should proceed with caution, ask for detailed invoices, and get everything in writing.
