Steve is the best ever. I had, or thought I had,a leak in the vcinity of the toilet/shower, sink areaof a guest bathroom. After a lengthy inspection, including aking taking out everythingunder the sik cabinet/filling the tub& using the shower ....it was determinedthat the new shampoo/rinse shower caddy was the culprit!!! Who wouldhave everthought?? Itis because Steve is so thorough that the true "culpit" was caused by the caddy getting showerwater to reside in it and slowly leakingonto the floor, and side of the cabinet.
Only because he perceived was the problem found.
Yes, the caddy is in the trash!!!

Emmanuel was outstanding in every way. He was very professional, friendly and knowledgeable. He explained everything well and convinced me to get a surge protector for the outside unit. A good decision, I think. He installed the last of the filter pads I had and I agreed to order a box of 4 from J&W because I’m an older senior with limited mobility and get lost at Home Depot. Your price for filters is rediculously high. That’s not Emnanual’s fault. It’s yours. Because I’m retired on a fixed income, I may look for a more reasonably priced provider. Treat Emmanuel well. He’s a valuable asset for your company.

Technician came out on 2/7 to provide an estimate for a propane hot water replacement. They were able to schedule the estimate withing a couple days of me calling. Tech seemed knowledgeable and reviewed several options with me. Provided written estimates via email. The estimates seemed high and did not contain breakdowns as to parts numbers/brands and labor. I emailed one of their managers, Richard, and asked for an itemized invoice so I could compare to other vendors to make sure I was getting a good value. He emailed me back 5 days later and said he would get back to me with my request. He never did. Guess they didn't want my business. I contacted a different company and they were able to come out same day and install a same capacity professional grade propane heater for half of what J&W had estimated.
ADDENDUM: After posting my first review management reached out to apologize and make amends so I boosted my rating to 3-Stars. Apparently they had a glitch in their system that weekend and the pricing was skewed so the actual price would have been more competitive. That is unfortunate because if they had followed up and corrected the estimate I likely would have used them. He told me this has been addressed with their employees.

I have a maintenance contract with J&W, called them as my condenser fan motor started making really a loud unusual sound a few days ago. Tech came and said right away it was the fan motor and it would cost $1,200 (without touching unit). Then went to find out availability for the part....seeing unit is 10 years old, told me I should replace whole system. A salesman came and gave me quotes for options between $11,000-$13,000+. I told him I would get other quotes from other companies. Within an hour of his leaving I got an email saying he got me a "discount" of an additional $500 off any of the options.
When another company came, the technician said as soon as we turned unit on, "that sounds like what a 10 year old Goodman sounds like", he then put his foot against the side panel and the new unusual sound went away. He then spent 20 minutes explaining that the coils looked great, the motor looked good, and if the fan motor was bad it absolutely would have been worth replacing for about $500. He did a complete check of the unit, checking both heat and AC, and said all pressures were good, the amps being drawn were fine. There was nothing wrong with it. And he tightened the loose panel and replaced 1 bolt and the loud sound was gone. I have now canceled my service contract.

THE VERDICT: Incredibly courteous, yet inconsistent work with unsolved problems (or new problems when old ones get resolved). Premium paid for average or subpar results. Felt like I was constantly upsold on every maintenance visit.
Let me preface this by saying I’ve now spent over $16,000 on HVAC repairs, new ducts, and blown in insulation over the span of a year. This wasn’t a one off poor experience, but a string of unsatisfactory service over a year’s time. I try to be fair and equitable on reviews.
I had gotten quotes from multiple companies and contractors before settling on J&W. They weren’t the cheapest, but I saw the reviews, they presented well, and detailed plan of attack on tackling my duct replacement and new installation. I paid a premium because I wanted it done properly.
They were prompt on everything and had new ductwork installed within a week. Just before it started warming up, everything appeared great and I thought they were superb. I got a free year of maintenance and a free plumbing check included. Great.
Well summer hit. It was time for my first maintenance call. I told them my den, which was the sweltering issue prior to new duct & insulation, was great… but the bedrooms now ran hot. That was an issue. Maintenance essentially said that sucks… recommendations were to install a UV system (??). I felt completely ignored but we were on the back half of summer and I said whatever, maybe we’re just crazy.
Plumbing inspection, they wanted to charge $800 to replace two toilets, $1250 to fix a leaky tub faucet, and over $2000 for a new water heater… and no that $800 didn’t include the cost of new toilet that was just the service fee. No thanks, now my internal red flags really going off.
Came to a head when we had the recent cold snap. Heat went out, took 4 total visits for them to actually figure out the issue. Cost $2500 to fix…
And didn’t fix the biggest issue: the bedrooms, notably my newborn’s nursery, was 5 to 7 degrees cooler than our heat setting depending on the time of night. We knew because baby monitor has a thermostat, we bought another to check, and we felt it blowing cold air back there when we were up at 2AM with our newborn.
5th visit the new technician came to install the new outdoor tx and filter drier. Was supposed to clean my coil (which I’m hoping is the issue, and what I just signed a new 1 year maintenance plan to actually do), was basically told that’d happen next visit (??????). Now realized no invoice or quotes were ever sent to me for any service.
Called 4th technician back out (Sr tech, very nice). Was told to video with my own thermostat at the vents (???????????) even though it was LITERALLY 5 degrees cooler than thermostat reading in my newborn’s room. I had felt it multiple nights blowing cold air in our baby’s room while up with him. And of course, it starts warming up outside by the time this whole ordeal wraps up so I couldn’t even get a proper video (but why on earth should I have to when you could feel how much colder it was in there and I spent SIXTEEN THOUSAND DOLLARS).
In essence, we paid an exorbitant amount for some improvement, but the essential issue I called them in for over a year ago was basically relocated to a WORSE part of the home. I’d honestly rather have my sauna of a den back and have spent that $16k elsewhere. And that’s the issue… I’m $16k out of pocket with negligible improvement while J&W has gotten really good at politely telling me that I’m SOL.
Note: for pics, heat is set at 72. I’ll be back with updates as I’m sure it’ll be markedly hotter in the summer back there. This was NOT an issue prior to duct replacement/ new insulation.
