Update: I was charged $997 to be exact, only $3 less than $1,000 to remove the spindles. If you don't have a copy of the purchase order anymore, I do and would be happy to share it with you.
I had hardwood floors re-stained and re-finished, and new hardwood flooring installed. They did a great job in the LR/DR, the new color stain I chose came out beautifully - they did a great job retaining the previously finished floors. They removed the old staining in 2/3 of the powder room, and left 1/3 of the bathroom floor with the old stain still showing a lot. It looks like there's something wrong with the floor. There were a lot of bubbles in the poly and stain in the new hardwood flooring in other rooms and on the re-finished flooring. I called the owner during the process to let him know; he said the bubbles were temporary and that they would be removed with the final coat of poly. The bubbles were still there after they were done. When I called the owner to come see it, his response was "well, the whole room will have to be redone" (which made sense because I realize you can't just sand and re-stain spots here and there. And then I never heard from him again. He also took advantage of my being at his mercy to remove the staircase spindles. (I had no one else to remove them so they could do the stairs.). He didn't want to do it either, and charged me $1,000 just to do that. They were very accommodating to my schedule and to working with the painter's schedule, which I appreciated very much, and only missed a few days being there when they were supposed to (it was over the holidays). Fortunately, the painter was very accommodating to the flooring guys sudden schedule changes. Overall, I'm pleased with their work, but I'm very unhappy with how the powder room looks.
