    We had heard from friends and neighbors about horror stories involving contractors and remodeling projects. Fortunately for us, this is NOT one of those stories. Our bathroom remodel could not have gone better. A complete demolition of the old master bathroom and installation of the new bathroom took only 7 weeks. Actual demolition took only 2 days. Troy, the owner of First General Services, took personal control of our remodeling project. The crew he sent to do the work was FANTASTIC! Their professionalism and expert attention to detail was excellent. The remodel was total. Demolition removed the old shower stall, the tub, all of the flooring, the vanities, lighting, wall mirrors, overhead fan, shower/tub/vanity fixtures, and wall tile. The only thing that was not replaced was the water efficient toilet that was replaced a year ago. Attention to detail, in our opinion, is critical to any project. The quality of work cannot only be judged by the major items installed and easily seen, but by the little things as well. These are things that you don't usually notice on first glance, but see over time. For instance, the repair of old damage to doors and walls and extra chalking beyond what is normally expected. These are just a few examples. The crew also took care to make sure everything was as perfect as possible during each step of the project. They normally showed up at 8 am and worked until 4 or 5 pm with only a lunch break. They showed up when they said they would and let us know when they would not be here for work. We could not have been happier. We should note that in this project, we personally chose all of the new materials used in the project. We were also on property the entire time the crew was working. Troy and his crew worked with us when changes needed to be made because we changed our minds, which was minimal, or some materials we had chosen were no longer available. The end result exceeded our best expectations. Thank you First General Services for a wonderful job.

    I would stay AS FAR FROM FIRST GENERAL SERVICE AS YOU CAN. YOU WILL BE WASTING YOUR TIME AND NEEDLESSLY RAISING YOUR STRESS LEVEL. I submitted a claim in Dec 2024, which was authorized in Feb 2025. I asked if the work could be done in Aug 2025, First General had no issue with this request. Since Aug, NO WORK HAS BEEN DONE, and I have never been contacted by them despite receiving the insurance companies check (USAA). I was assigned three project mgrs during the process, each more incompetent than the last. The final mgr was actually the company owner, who had no problem ignoring my calls as efficiently as the others. Finally, USAA voided the check and I am now on the lookout for a new company. Ten months out the window and wer'e still left with all the damage.

    1 star because the initial estimate was detailed and thorough. 1 star because the work did get done. -1 star because the work was not always to the standard we expected. E.g. when painting a head height shelf they just painted what they could reach and what they thought we could see instead of getting on a step and doing it all properly. We had to ask for several things to be re-done. As far as I can tell, FGS gives the work out to the cheapest sub-contractors it can find and so the skill level of the people actually doing the work is very hit or miss. -1 star because the project management was lackadaisical. E.g. when they caused another leak (while repairing after a leak) and I notified the project manager he simply said “thanks for letting me know” instead of “I’m really sorry, what do you need?” -1 star because dealing with the office was awful. When we descoped the project a bit, all sorts of extra charges appeared and we had a real struggle getting back our money on the work not performed. Our experience with FGS was very disappointing; hopefully yours will be better.

    My wife and I recently had some damage done to our house due to a storm. We needed new roofing, new kitchen cabinets and flooring. They were very quick in responding to our initial call, came out and started working on this project right away. We are extremely happy with the end result and will call them again.
