I wish I even had the words to say how awful my family’s experience with this company was. Communication was awful across the board, with the several representatives that we had. We had a contingent sale. The sale of our current house couldn’t happen by the deadline because of an unfortunate but small house fire. We asked to extend our deadline so we could repair and sell, they said they needed to ask their president. After weeks of us calling and then ignoring or giving us no answers finally they called us back and said they were going to do a partial termination where they’d keep our earnest money and write a new contract where they’d try and keep our incentives the same. They said their president didn’t agree to a extended deadline to sell our house, even though it would be sold well before the home was even done being built. We weren’t comfortable with that arrangement and so they decided to terminate us completely. We called their president just to tell what our experience was and he said he hasn’t even heard of us and he didn’t hear about a fire let alone someone asking for an extension. He said they absolutely didn’t do partial terminations. So we were hoping maybe he would remedy the situation. We called him back about a week later to see if he followed up on everything and he said “yep your check is on it’s way but we are keeping your processing fee” so that’s $250. Even though we are a veteran family and they couldn’t per our contract. Four weeks go by and we haven’t gotten a check or anything. I reviewed our contract and it said veterans get their processing fees back. So I contacted the BBB and eventually a week or so later we got our check back in full. After being finally terminated and things tied up, we walked into the office of the DR Horton builder in the same neighborhood and went under contract with them the next day. Our experience with DR Horton has been incredible, I’d highly recommend going with a different builder than Richmond America Homes in the same area if it’s an option.

From start to finish every experience we've had with Richmond has been HORRIBLE. Their employees are rude and unreliable, they make tons of promises they won't deliver on, and the construction quality is abysmal. They hire the cheapest workers, use the cheapest materials, and rarely meet deadlines. They complete projects just enough to pass inspections and meet guidelines, with no regard for quality and longevity of the home. We've been in our house for a year and we're still fighting to get things fixed that were supposed to be done at closing (things we paid thousands extra for). I look around my home every day and am reminded what a huge mistake we made trusting Richmond American. STAY AWAY!!!!

Go anywhere else! Their model homes are beautiful don’t get me wrong, but their promises are empty. As a veteran they promise you that the earnest money is “Completely refundable” what they don’t tell you is how long it takes to get back and that they have a processing fee even though I should be charging them interest on the $4500 they kept for over a month after I asked for it back. I asked for the money back because they were basically forcing us to sell our house even though theirs wouldn’t be ready for 8-10 months with no guarantee on when.
Do yourself a favor and go across the street to DR Horton, they have half the required earnest and ready to move in homes that are amazing plus you won’t have to move twice. Or Maritage homes that only require $1,000 down and equally beautiful homes.
