We feel so fortunate to have found the wonderful people at Design Studio West! A water leak started our remodeling adventure. We searched for quite a while to find the right company to help us with this fairly large project. From the minute we walked into DSW's showroom, we felt at home. We had the very good fortune of connecting with two key people who made our experience so positive. The first person is designer Margaret Dean, who is a wizard with space, color, and texture and could take our combined visions and create something beyond our wildest dreams. The second person is Doug Hyatt, whose incredible abilities as project manager could take those dreams and make them a reality. They held our hands, listened to our ideas, integrated their own knowledge and advice, and made all our ideas come to life!
The professionalism presented from start to finish is top notch. It began with a very thorough home visit to analyze and see the space, take measurements, and evaluate our options. Colorful and information packed plans were drawn up multiple times until they were just right. We would meet at the showroom and our home and go over every aspect with the team. We were very comfortable with the whole process by the time we signed on the dotted line to start our project. The whole team was quite the force when put together to get our job off the ground - from partners Lee Austin and Karl Utzman to Operations Administer Tracie Hyatt and all the people in between.
The DSW team creates a line item document that covers every cost associated with the job and ends with a projected total, including timeline. Our projects came in at or below the projected budgets. The quality of workmanship does come at a cost, but you do get what you pay for, as the saying goes. DSW stands out as exceptional design company based on their fine and constant communication and listening skills, structured work schedule (Someone was here everyday at 7:00 in the morning to start work once the job began.), superior craftsmanship and work ethic, immediate response to changes, concerns, or questions which often included an updated set of plans, creativity, and problem solving with solutions that made you forget there even was a problem. These are things you can't really put a price tag on, and they are some of the many reasons why their pricing is indeed reasonable in the end.
The craftsmen that worked on our home were all top of their field. From demo to plumbing, electrical, tile and slab counters, paint, wallpaper, cabinetry, and amazing installation (Thank You, Tony, Dave, Robert, and Ricky!). Everything was truly done with master craftsmanship quality and as if our home was their own. Additionally, so many of these talented craftsmen have been with DSW for years, if not decades, which really meant a lot to us. We knew the trust level was very high. If we came up with a last minute change or idea, the team was open minded and made it happen, or equally important, told us if it wouldn't work and why, along with an alternative solution! The finished product was really beyond our dreams and changed the heart of our home completely.
We were so happy with the transformation, which included our kitchen, pantry, half bath, relocated laundry room, mudroom, and family room, that we decided to continue the remodel process the following year for our office, guest bath, and living room. Again, Design Studio West did an amazing job with it all. We just finished the third and final phase, our primary bedroom and bath and could not be happier. The same attention to detail, fine craftsmanship, and excellent communication made all phases of work with them a pleasure.
Undertaking a remodel over the course of three years is a daunting task. Knowing that we had such an outstanding company working with us and for us, made all the difference in this very positive experience. We have a beautifully remodeled home to enjoy for many years to come and consider all the people at Design Studio West part of our family now!
We can't say enough about how happy we are with the work Design Studio West did on our kitchen remodel. The project was complex—we were extending our small kitchen into a spare bedroom—and our house, built in 1947, presented some unique challenges with its uneven floors and walls. From the very beginning, however, Margaret Dean found brilliant solutions to every issue. She took the time to truly understand our needs and personal style, which was especially important to me as an avid cook. This made the entire process so much more enjoyable and efficient. The entire DSW team, including Margaret, Doug Hyatt, Steve Hunt, and Tracie Hyatt, demonstrated an incredible level of customer service. They were highly collaborative, even accommodating my desire to do some of the work myself. Doug and Steve were instrumental in coordinating tasks and offering valuable problem-solving advice for my part of the project. Tracie provided regular, clear updates on billing and was always available to answer our questions. The transparency about costs from the start was a huge plus. I also want to give a special shout-out to our cabinet installer, Stephen Calleja. The "levelness" issues of our old home must have made his job a nightmare, yet he made the new cabinets look absolutely stunning. Having worked with numerous contractors over the years, I can confidently say I've never experienced this level of satisfaction with a home-improvement project. The entire process with DSW was seamless, and the results are spectacular. We're so impressed that we’ve already decided to hire them again for our master bathroom remodel. I highly recommend Design Studio West and everyone on their team.
