We hired ServiceMaster of Thunder Bay to do a fairly extensive cleanup and remediation of my father's home after he passed away. Communication with Chris was good initially, and the price and timeline seemed very reasonable. I gave instructions about what was to be kept and that everything else could be discarded. I was mainly working from memory as I do not live anywhere near Thunder Bay.
Upon inspection it looked like they did a pretty good job with a hard situation (mold, etc.). Upon closer look however, I noticed that two perfectly good televisions and a brand new chop saw were not among the items left. When I asked Chris about it, he said that they were thrown out per my instructions, after which I was issued an invoice. I wrote back noting that I was disappointed that they would not at least check in with me about these items before disposing of them, and that it was hard not to think they ended up with someone from ServiceMaster. I got no response, seeming to confirm my suspicions and leave me wondering what else might have been taken.
So technically my instructions were followed. The job they did was good under the circumstances. Communication deteriorated, concerns were not addressed, and the experience left me with a bad taste in my mouth, feeling like a grieving family was taken advantage of.
There are several things that could have been done, including retrieving the items, discounting the approximate value from the bill, offering additional services, etc. Instead I was met with silence. I told Chris I would be writing an honest review, so there it is.
