I made a big mistake hiring the Unstoppable Handyman to come out (April 2026) to do some work at my place. The job they agreed to was caulk the bathtub - check the water pressure kitchen sink, look into stabilizing an uncaulked spigot in the bathtub. After accepting the job they said they weren’t licensed to do plumbing but they would charge me $40 to “inspect” and “make recommendations for the spigot,” sure, no problem. The fact that they charged me over 32% more than their estimate wasn't even the worst part. $40, the agreement after telling me he had no license was to look at the spigot. I agreed to this work for the price of $270 - their written estimate. After the work, they emailed me an invoice for $358. I paid this but asked why the price increase? They said the "cost of material" (to caulk a bathtub??) and to caulk around the shower door block guide, which was maybe a few square inches to do. I thought that would’ve been included in caulking the bathtub, but apparently not with this company. Their prices truly are UNSTOPPABLE.
None the less, the caulking work looked good. But here's the problem - and it's a big one. I waited almost 2 days before using the tub/shower after the caulking work to allow for drying. Finally when I used the shower, I noticed the tub spigot was stabilized after I showered but when I reached down to turn the water off, water began coming out from the wall (marble tile). While I was driving to work that day I called and spoke to Preston, who is the owner as well as performed the work 2 days prior. I explained the spigot was leaking water from behind the wall and I needed someone to come out ASAP to look at it. I sent him a video of me turning on the water and the video showing water running out from inside the wall. During our brief phone conversation, Preston stated that he's not licensed to do plumbing. He denied causing the leak. He told me, "I didn't touch your pipes," but he admitted to removing the spigot which is connected to the copper pipeline. He told me that the original worker who installed the bathtub faucet in my bathroom "didn't do the work correctly"... "it not up to code"... telling me it wasn't anything that he had done. Here's a logical question - if he didn't touch the plumbing, how does he know it "wasn't up to code" or had been improperly assembled? He already said he's not licensed. I asked him if he removed the bathtub spigot and he said that he did, to spray a "backer foam" to stabilize the spigot. I told him it wasn't leaking before, it's leaking now, and when he became defensive and argumentative I asked him if he was going to send someone to fix it, he said “no,” he would not send anyone or take responsibility for the leak. Before I terminated the phone conversation with Mr. "Preston" I told him I was going to review his business on Yelp, Google and that I would also be putting in a consumer complaint against his business, Unstoppable Handyman, with the (BBB) Better Business Bureau, which I have every intention on doing. During this call, Preston retaliated, telling me he was going to report me to my condominium HOA, as he made the false accusation that I hired "an unlicensed plumber" who originally did the work, which was totally false. The only one performing unlicensed plumbing work was Preston, when he removed the spigot, which is considered basic plumbing work. Accordingly, pipes can be damaged when removing spigots if not done properly. The contractor who installed the shower, Steve Miller, was not only a licensed plumber by trade but holds a general contractor's license, who builds entire houses. There's no telling how much water could have ran down behind the wall under the bath tub which could cause floor damage as well as mold. The tub and shower can't be used now until I have it repaired by a qualified licensed contractor, which will cost me a lot of money to fix. In fact, I might elect to "take some time off from work" to persue legal action to recoup my financial losses on this.
