I hired AV Insulation to repair 2 feet wide (from the floor up) of insulation and the existing vapor barrier on my entire house. When Israel came over to give me the estimate he did articulate to me that they would not be able to fully seal up the vapor barrier because they were only repairing a 2 feet wide portion of the wall and not the whole entire wall to which I told him I understand since that makes logical sense but he did say they will "do the best they can". A couple of days later after he emailed me with the estimate I had asked him if there was any way he could lower the price so that I could be in more of a compliance with the budget of Mercury Insurance's contractors estimated price since A.V. Insul. price was almost a few hundred dollars higher than the insurances contractor's estimate. I emailed Israel a copy of the insurance contractors estimated price and he replied that he was able to take off $50 from his estimate to which I expressed how truly grateful I was that he did that, even though I was still $300 over the budget of the insurance's estimate. After that I told him to pencil me in asap because I needed to get my house repairs started. The worker(s) showed up on the day Israel said they would be there and he stated it would only take a couple of hours to finish to which I was ecstatic about because I had a dry wall contractor coming the next day. Well that evening on the day they completed the insulation I went over there to not only check out the work but to also do some other things in preparation for the drywallers in the morning. I arrived at my house around 4:30pm and inspected the work and all I can really say is that was the worst kind of job I have ever seen in any facet of construction. Not only did the worker have so much overlap on the vapor barrier seams that was just dangling there and touching the floor but there were very minimal staples on the barrier to the 2x4's and on the seams but all throughout the house there were so many smashed staples in one spot and just left there but also so many staples in the middle of the vapor barrier where there was no wood and so many punctures all throughout the plastic vapor barrier. There were so many spots where the worker cut the top of the plastic short so there were up to a 1/4" gap of no plastic even touching or sealing in the barrier to the top of the drywall where the existing plastic barrier was. It appeared that they were in such a hurry to complete this job so that they could go on to the next one since they did mine first thing in the morning and only took them a couple of hours to complete. I was so stressed out and frantic because I had the drywallers coming in at 6am the next morning so since it was after business hours there was no way to contact them to remedy the situation and I could not cancel the drywallers because I had to have all this work started so the insurance would see my due diligence and extend my Air BnB because there was not enough time as it was to get all the work completed in the time frame they had set for the move out date of my Air BnB. I was so frustrated and stressed that I did not even take pictures of their shotty work. I ended up spending almost $50 on 2 rolls of pink insulation seam tape and a box of staples at Home Depot. I took me from around 4:45pm to 10:45pm (around 6 hours) to not only seal in their entire job from top to bottom and all seams with the tape but I also had to use almost half a box of staples to properly seal in the barrier to the wood and cut out a few spots of the excessive overlap they did. If they were going to have overlap on any portion of the barrier it should have been on the top where the most important part of the barrier was needed to butt up against and overlap the old barrier. That was the worst quality work I had ever seen on any job in all of construction and I've been around general construction for 19 years. If you choose to use them all I can say is just be cautious and best of luck to you.
