Update after business response: Only thing correct about their response was that $250 wasn’t the diagnostic charge, which is why I used the qualifier “like”. This was almost a year ago.
Managers attitude was horrible and yes the lien threat was one of the first things out of her mouth after I explained the credit card charge was wrong. And notice how the business response doesn’t even respond to that part of my review- which was the massive error that led to this one-star experience.
Another one-star here on Google shows a letter threatening legal action for a bad review. It would be fun if this case led to a lawsuit in which the call recording came to light haha. (It certainly wouldn’t win this company or the manager any business)
Original review: This was last November, but worth sharing if it helps someone else:
Quote was expensive- like $250 just for John (I think that was his name? Could be wrong), the owner/plumber to show up, but fair enough, I needed a leaky toilet fixed at my rental.
Well $250 is just to come out- now he needed to charge ANOTHER $125 or so to do the actual work.
Multiple times I asked if the plumber could call me directly because I wanted to understand what was going on.
He never did- so I kept having to play telephone between the manager lady and him. I found that kind of rude. Everything I was hearing about the toilet was second-hand.
Apparently he needed to charge more because the 2” cast iron drain pipe that goes into the concrete foundation somehow popped a bit out of the ground?? I’m not sure how that’s even possible. It might be, but I’ll never know because John never called me.
I did not feel good about spending the money at that point but he was already there, and I already spent 250 so might as well finish it out.
Whole job took maybe one hour, total was around 375 to remove toilet, grind a bit off the drain (still have no idea if/why that was necessary because John never communicated with me) and install a new seal.
I feel that was massively too expensive and kinda bait-and-switch-y
Their quote had a card processing fee of .04%, that’s fine. But they invoiced for a 4% charge, which is 100x as expensive.
I called asking if I could pay Venmo or Zelle to avoid this, manager refused.
When I brought up that the contract language said it was .04% and not 4% the manager lady told me that .04 and 4 werel the same thing, and hit me with the “you people are all the same” referring to people who live in Encinitas- implying that we were all slimey rich people trying to get out of paying bills or something.
I didn’t raise any issue with the actual bill- just the fact that the credit card charge was not what I expected (because it was literally 100x than the language in the contract said it should be).
Manager lady was very dismissive, instead of apologizing or even pulling up the agreement to check the language, she kept saying “no one‘s ever brought that up before” and refused to pull up the actual agreement.
So I read it to her- she double down and told me that .04% and 4% were the same thing…
…while refusing to actually pull up the agreement to look.
When I was persistent (not rude, despite her being very rude) she eventually started crying.
Not before threatening to put a lien on my house (she led with that threat, actually. The crying came later).
Then it was “I just answer the phones”, and “it’s just a few bucks, what’s the big deal?”. (The big deal was the dismissive attitude and the fact that I was literally being charged a higher amount than the contract stated.)
When she started crying I said “just have the plumber/owner call me, okay?” And we ended the call.
It felt like talking to an actual child.
Of course John never called.
I had to email manager lady asking for the charge to just be removed and I’d pay it.
Didn’t wanna bother sharing this but if it helps others it’s worth it I guess.
Hope they’ve fixed the language in their contract.
I’ll attach a picture if I can (check contract language in bottom left).

I,m responding to Encinitas Plumbings reply to my original review AGAIN!. Your response is still full of misconceptions.
The bill WAS paid in full the next day. You had requested I slip it under the door at your Encinitas office, and you would pick it up later in the day, which I did. You DID send me a threatening eMail stating you would put a lien on my home if the bill was not paid immediately. I saved a copy of that email if anyone is interested in knowing the truth. I still question why the labor was so outlandishly expensive no matter what your standard quote is.

Horrible Communication. Called twice after my scheduled appointment. No show. Finally got a call back. The owner shouted and cursed at me. Said he was a "Christian Man". Why even bring that up? I am a believer but, that has nothing to do with a leaking toilet seat. I went somewhere else obviously, and with a more affordable company. His rational to fix for cheap was the same cost to replace with new. Peace of mind goes a long way. Thanks anyways Tim, have a good day.
