Another stellar service by A1 Garage Doors, and Billy Lemke! I have used A1 for over 20 years now, and have ALWAYS received a World Class Customer Experience. The Tech [Billy Lemke] exemplifies the professionalism and quality of A1. He completed the inspection and provided multiple solutions and recommendations, without the usual 'Used Car Salesman" approach of other companies. If you need any repairs or replacements of garage equipment in your home, these are the guys!

I genuinely hope this is all a misunderstanding and they get this fixed tomorrow, but first impressions are giving major scammy vibes.
Background: scheduled a free estimate to get out main door fixed (was having sensor issues). Guy came out, told me would be $79 to diagnose then if it was the sensors another $170 service fee. Told him we were just getting quotes so I didn't want him to proceed. He claimed to have a new iPad and needed to call his manager to figure out how to document it and then he would be on his way. He then texted a few minutes later that he spoke to his manager and they would do a tune-up on both doors for free and replace the sensor for a total of $79 all-in. The price seemed fair and lower than our earlier quote from another company so I told him to proceed. He called me to come outside when the work was done, pointed out some wear on the springs and weighed it in front of me that it had 15lb of pressure (remember this for later) which was bad and that he suggested we replace it. I told him to send me the estimate and I'd talk it over with my husband. He had me sign a waiver that I refused the work. We tested the door that he came out to fix, it worked, so he cleaned up and left. Never crossed my mind to check the other door because it never had issues before and he wasn't working on it other than the tune up (lesson learned).
Current situation: husband wakes me up that the other door is now not working (same issue as first door they fixed the day before). I called customer service and they said they would put in a recall and waive the call fee. I asked for more info on what a recall meant and if I would be charged for him to fix whatever he broke yesterday and she kept saying she doesn't know what they will charge, that they will evaluate and give me the estimate. I started getting upset at this point because what do you mean you're charging me for something you broke? She then starts going into how the tech recommended the springs because it had 30lb of pressure and I went against their recommendations. 1) either she was falsely inflating it herself or the tech falsely documented it because if you remember from above it was 15lb, and 2) that has nothing to do with the door in question, so why are you bringing that up?! It feels like because I declined the upsell they sabatoged something else so I had to call them again to get more work done. I kept trying to redirect her that we weren't talking about the spring. She cut me off at one point and just put me on hold to schedule the appointment for them to come back out tomorrow. At this point I was tired and could tell I wasnt getting anywhere with her so I accepted the appointment for them to come back to look at it.
Hopefully they make this right tomorrow, but terrible first impression from this company. We had a similar scenario years ago in another state with an auto repair company that everytime we would take our car in a few days later something else would break. Later found out they were closing after being sued by multiple people for intentionally breaking other things in order to keep the customers returning for more repairs. This feels VERY similar to that.
Edited to add: we had a different company out the day before for a quote, and he said the springs in question had some wear but nothing that needed done anytime soon. The A1 rep, however, repeatedly talked about how scary it was and that it needed repaired ASAP. $1-$1.5k to fix...reading through other comments this seems to be a recurring trend with this company.

Well, we figured we hadn't quite spent enough on the house this year so apparently my garage door decided to help us out.
I figured I would replace the rollers in the doors since they hadn't been done since the doors were originally installed 26 years ago. All went well until I put one of the rollers in the wrong tube in one of the hinges and Voila... the door jumped out of the rails bending them in the process and bending part of the door.
Of course this all had to happen on New Years Eve as well so Yippee! I called A1 Garage Door Service and the were able to send out a technician in just a couple of hours.
Andrew showed up and surveyed the damage but I already knew it was a worst case scenario. The hardest part of this was just trying to get the door up high enough to be able to get our cars out of the garage. It took a bit but we finally got the cars out and muscled the door back down so we had some semblance of security.
Next came the painful part and that was discussing how much it would cost to replace the door and hardware. Of course we found out that since the door was at least 26 years old, they didn't make that particular style anymore. We have a 3 car garage so that means the doors wouldn't match. Well after Andrew put us on a 3-way call with Garrett (basically a sales guy... sorry Garrett, I couldn't remember your title!), we went over our options for different quality doors & hardware.
For being on a major holiday, Andrew & Garrett were very helpful and especially friendly. We're grateful that we were able to get someone out here to help us on such short notice and grateful that Andrew was the person that was sent.
As a combat vet, I knew he would be thorough and honest. Especially since we've got military camaraderie.
We should hopefully have our new doors installed within the next week or two and I'm sure we'll be happy.
Justin Tatum was awesome. I imagine people say that a lot. We were in an emergency situation and Justin came right over and gave us great options on how move forward and still get a great price. He took the time to make sure we understood the problem. We needed a new door, new opener and all the misc stuff. We got exactly what we wanted. Justin is a good chap. The kind of person you need in an emergency. I highly recommend him .
Positive Start, Disappointing Finish
The A1 Garage Door installation started well, and the team was professional. However, after the new door was installed and closed, I noticed a significant gap at the bottom. When I brought this up, I was told I was wrong and that the gap must have been pre-existing. I know for a fact the gap wasnt there when the garage door was functioning properly prior to me having to call because of the issue that I was having with the garage door not opening. This difference in opinion and refusal to address the issue left me disappointed. I was told that if I left the garage door pressing against the floor, it would cause damage, which makes sense, but that's not how the door was prior to the garage door not working. I was told that the garage door opener mechanism was in superior condition to what was currently on there, which was just installed. That's why the garage door is now opening and closing properly, which for eight years I had no issues with. I got what I expected with their last-minute service for an emergency fix. I will not be recommending A1 Garage Door to friends or family and will not use them in the future. Since the installation, I have had nothing but problems. While the door technically opens and closes now, the fit is poor and the customer service was even worse. I paid for an emergency fix and got a subpar result with a side of condescension.
