Tom and Freda just left my property after coming out for a evaluation and quote. The entire experience was extremely chaotic, as they were incapable of communicating with one another, and spent the entire time talking over each other, when one would ask me a question, and the other would interject, not giving me any time to even answer. I had to be stern with what I wanted, to even be heard. Freda, unable to keep up with Tom and his vision for what he thought should be done, continued to ask questions. Tom, ran around taking measurements without any sort of direction. The entire interaction was incredibly stressful and confusing. I disclosed, when calling, that I might need to break this down into sections so I could afford it. I wanted a driveway, as well as an asphalt area under my carport, with a walkway leading up to my existing porch. After finding out how large the driveway just was, and what that would likely cost from their verbal roundabout price, I asked if we could switch gears and focus on the parking area so I could still get in and out of my car without tracking mud in. Tom, with my direction, took those measurements, and I sketched down notes in Freda's notepad, because she was not able to keep up with him.
Tom directed Freda to work up the numbers, in an urgency, and she continually asked about the driveway. I tried to explain that I would like to focus on the parking area first and I would add the driveway later, but was unable to get this articulated because Tom continued to speak over me. The entire experience was very aggressive and all over the place. I finally put both of my hands up in the air, explaining that this was terribly exhausting, and that I needed both of them to just stop for a moment so they could understand what I wanted and get a proper quote. It was the most unorganized mess and power struggle I have ever encountered with a contractor. Freda acknowledged this, and let her guard down a bit. It was obvious she was ready to listen. Tom, on the other hand, was set off by this, he exclaimed that I should, "lay off the dope" which is a rather odd accusation considering I am a sober person who had just expressed my desire to turn my property into a wellness retreat one day. In shock, I told him I was sober and that was a rather offensive thing to suggest, and he accused me of bouncing off the walls, despite my flustered attempt to keep up with his neurotic behavior as he measured the property. I said he was completely out of line, and the way they were acting was insane, considering I would be the one writing the check. He then aggressively and repeatedly, threw his finger in the air my direction, in a pointing manner, declaring, "I wouldn't trust a check from you." Before getting in their car and speeding away.
The one thing I am grateful about in this experience is that I did not spend any more time with this unhinged couple, and that I did not hire them to do any work on my property. I cannot imagine the nightmare and the unsettling situation that would have unfolded, had I have actually entered a contract with them. If they were the last asphalt company on the face of the earth, there is no way, shape, or form I would ever do business with them or suggest them to anyone else.
Edited to add: I find it odd that the "owner" responded so candidly, after Tom and Freda, the husband wife combo who came to my house in their SUV with 2 kids in tow said they own the company. Even other previous reviews referred to the company as family owned and operated.
Additionally, within 2 days you now have several more raving reviews which I can only assume is an attempt to water down the weight of my one star review, which seems fishy considering I was one of only 8 reviews just 2 days ago.
