After Eight Interiors – Use at Your Own Risk
When my home suffered water damage from a leaking dishwasher, PURE Restorations brought in After Eight Interiors as a last-minute substitution to replace my floors. That single decision led to an ongoing nightmare.
At first, things seemed promising. We were met by After Eight’s insurance sales reps, who were genuinely lovely—polite, patient, and even willing to meet us on a Saturday to review materials. Sadly, that’s where the praise ends.
Once it came time to install the floors, my family was required to move out of our home for two weeks. Feeling uneasy, I returned before baseboards were reinstalled to check the flooring. What I found was horrifying.
At a glance, the floors looked good. I felt hopeful we’d be able to return home soon. But when I bent down near the entrance, I saw that one of the boards was already split. My heart sank. That single board set the tone for everything that followed.
That night, I spent hours crawling on my hands and knees, documenting dozens of defects: splintering, gouges, chipped edges, and lifted corners. Where they’d tried to repair damage, it was even worse—poorly matched filler smeared between boards, so mismatched even After Eight’s own team later mistook it for wood glue.
I immediately reported the issues to both my insurance provider and PURE. They responded quickly, but their attitude was dismissive. A site tour was held in my absence. A family member was present and explicitly told After Eight not to start any repairs until I could speak with them directly. That instruction was ignored.
Their site manager claimed later he’d been told it was fine to proceed. He was caught lying on speakerphone, while I stood next to the person he was misquoting.
When I finally got him back on site, I walked him through the damage myself. After over an hour of pressure, he agreed eight boards needed to be replaced, with additional work required on others using filler and wax.
The next day, unable to take more time off work, I left the installer unsupervised. That was a mistake. When I returned, I found that many agreed-upon repairs hadn’t been done. Some boards that should have been replaced were simply filled over. Others were replaced poorly—edges lifted, joins uneven, splinters already forming.
To my horror, baseboards had already been reinstalled. It was a clear attempt to close out the job prematurely.
I immediately removed the contractor’s lockbox to prevent them from declaring the job finished—or causing more damage.
What I found on inspection was shocking:
• Boards that were supposed to be replaced were covered with filler instead
• Replacements showed splintered edges, raised corners, and visible damage
• Damage spread beyond repair sites, with new splintering around their “fixes”
• Filler had been smeared across clean boards
• The floor was left unsafe and unfinished
By this point, it was clear: After Eight Interiors never intended to do the job properly. They just wanted it signed off and paid.
I spent my entire Labour Day weekend crawling across the house with painter’s tape, marking dangerous splinters. There are literal matchstick-sized shards sticking up from some boards—and yet I was told the work meets “industry standard.”
If this is After Eight’s standard, they are in the wrong industry.
As of today, my daughter cannot safely enter her bedroom. My family cannot sit down for meals. We can’t use our kitchen. We are now waiting on a third-party inspection to push for proper remediation.
We had no choice in After Eight’s selection. PURE Restorations made that call. I can only hope this review spares others the same experience.
Do not hire After Eight Interiors. Do not allow your insurance or restoration company to assign them to work on your home. If you have no choice, document everything.
