I’m still using HighLevel for now, but I’m giving it one last try while several issues remain unresolved. My concerns are mainly around unexpected fees, inconsistent customer support, and poor onboarding. More importantly, I believe these are systemic issues rather than isolated problems. 1. Unexpected fees HighLevel’s base price is attractive, but the real cost becomes less clear once you start using it. Email sending, phone usage, call recording/storage, and some workflow actions can all create additional charges. The individual amounts may be small, but this is a CRM built around communication and automation. I don’t think customers should have to think about the cost of every email, call, recording, or automated action. It should be included in the cost of the account/sub accounts. What frustrated me most was discovering some of these charges through billing after onboarding. We had specifically discussed phones, email campaigns, and automation, yet after roughly two months of use and numerous support calls, I still didn’t feel I had been given a clear picture of the actual cost structure. HighLevel also charges $500 USD/month for Premium Support. To me, that makes the standard support issues harder to accept. By simply offering this feature I think it makes a statement to the world they know their CS team could be better and instead of fixing the root issue they would rather charge more. Its showing the company direction being focussed on economical which have less resources to focus on experience naturally. Some may label it as having 'choice' but when you add the premium support and the account costs together, it's a very similar cost to Hubspot which I've had amazing experiences with. Plus it does more. Food for thought. 2. Customer support The representatives themselves are generally friendly and genuinely try to help. My issue is with the system they appear to be working within. Across roughly 10 recent support calls, I found only one agent who seemed to have a strong enough understanding of HighLevel to answer questions confidently without repeatedly putting me on hold to research them. From my experience, many agents rely heavily on HighLevel University, help articles, and forums. There are exceptions, but for many questions I’ve found it faster and more effective to ask a GPT to work through those same publicly available resources. If support is largely searching information I already have access to, the value of contacting support becomes questionable. That feels like a training problem, not an employee problem. Charging $500/month for better support feels more like a workaround than a solution. 3. Sales and onboarding My sales and onboarding experience felt rushed and aggressive. We discussed phones, email campaigns, and automation extensively, but I came away with an incomplete understanding of both the platform’s limitations and its additional usage costs. I don’t expect every feature to be free. I do expect important fees and limitations to be clearly communicated before I invest significant time building business systems around the platform. The phone system has also been disappointing for my needs. It is well integrated and simple, but compared with dedicated phone systems I find it limited, with usage-based pricing becoming another consideration as call volume grows. Overall, HighLevel has a strong concept and useful functionality, which is why I’m still trying to make it work. But the combination of fragmented pricing, inconsistent support, and unclear onboarding has seriously damaged my confidence in the platform. I’m happy to update this review if these issues are resolved. At this point, though, I’m questioning whether continuing to invest in HighLevel makes sense versus moving to Hubspot with a MUCH stronger overall customer experience. My suspicion on their good reviews is that they post/link individual reviews to specific CS agents, hence the names and language used in many of the 5 star reviews. Notice not very many good reviews are on the system as a whole.
